Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. To RICHARD WINDLEY and Carolyn. I thought my FE film advance stuck a while ago. I could move it about halfway to the end position where a firm restistance prevented completion of the film advance operation. I thought I had loaded the camera with a roll of film with 36 frames. The frame number indicator showed that I had frames left. However, the problem was simply that there was no more film to advance -- the film in the camera had only 24 frames.
So, maybe you can try to press the film release button under the camera, rewind and remove the film. Then check if the film advance lever is still locked.2. From : Carolyn (seven1113@yahoo.com)

Hi, all , I have just found this site. I am a nikon owner since the sevnties and have the fe and the new n80. TO WINDICKC @aol,,,, my Fe is stuck just like yours. Someone said, have you put in new bateries? I will have to try this, Please let me know if you have any luck finding out what the problem is. Also I have an IMAGE CBD-30 flash unit and am trying to find out if it is compatible with the n80 body. I have been looking at the new sb-30, but don'y know if it would be good on the n80 as well. Anybody have any suggestions? Tyhanks so much, Carolyn This is s great ite, you are doing a great job.3. From : andy (avolchko@aol.com)

I WANT TO REPAIR MY MODEL NIKON FE #3687961 OR REPLACE SAME. THE UNIT IS 'LOCKED'. THE FILM ADVANCE LEVER WILL NOT MOVE FROM THE 'ON' POSITION THRU FILM ADVANCE. ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS ARE IN WORKING ORDER. CONDITIONS LEADING UP TO THIS LOCKED CONDITION ARE AS FOLLOWS;
UNIT WAS COUPLED TO A NIKON MODEL MD-12 #186428 POWER FILM
ADVANCE.
UNIT WAS SET IN CONTINUOUS MODE.
UPON RELEASING OF SHUTTER RELEASE BUTTON, CAMERA
CONTINUED TAKING PICTURES AND ADVANCING FILM.
SWITCHING MD-12 POWER SWITCH TO OFF STOPPED THIS ACTION;
HOWEVER, MANUAL ADVANCE OF FILM WOULD NOT FUNCTION.
REMOVAL OF MD-12 FROM CAMERA BODY DID NOT UNLOCK FILM
ADVANCE.
SHOULD UNIT BE REPAIRED OR SALVAGED-IF SALVAGED THIS WOULD INCLUDE (4) EXCELLENT LENSE, ONE BEING A KIRON 70-150MM F/4.
SUGGESTIONS AND/OR NEAREST REPAIR FACILITY CLOSEST TO RALEIGH, NC
THANKS,
DICK

I just received a used Nikon FE. I have tried 4 lenses and all display the same problem. I see a round spot in the viewfinder. Every thing is there but I cannot get a full frame in the viewfinder. Also after firing a few shutter releases the counter is on "S" and pushing the rewind release and opening the back does not reset it and the film advance will not wind any further and the shutter will not fire. ????????6. Anybody know where I can buy a quality leather "eveready" case for my FE2?
I only need it to cover a 50mm lens.
Please email me because I don't get to check in here that often.
Thanks,

Hallo all, I've had a good browse through the archive and can't see anything that'll help me out here. I've got a focussing problem on my FE which has only just appeared. When I set the lense to infinity and aim at the horizon, the viewfinder image isn't focussed, and the lense needs to be focussed a little closer (a little less than the infra-red correction dot). I've got a K type screen and am using a 28/2.8 and a 50/1.4. I think I might have done the body some damage when I accidentally fitted an old zoom lense into the wrong set of slots in the bayonet fitting (something I didn't think it was possible to do- I know now it is...). I can't tell if the focussing problem is present with the zoom (fitted correctly) because the rangefinder in the screen goes dark anyway. I can't see any scratches or bent bits in the lensemount, and everything is just as tight and secure as its ever been. I've tried taking out and replacing the screen, thinking it might just be a problem there, but to no avail. Any ideas, anybody ever seen this problem before?
thanks all!8. From : w.f.whitelaw (sauer38h@yahoo.com)

Great site. I've used my FE2 since it was new, but I didn't know as much about it as I found here. Sure, so the site isn't perfect - navigation can get a bit complicated, and the English is a bit rough. But these are minor quibbles. Keep up the great work.
While I'm here I'll mention a strange problem I recently had. The FE2 was grossly overexposing everything. I noticed that meter operation was erratic - sometimes it seemed normal, but usually it wouldn't respond properly to lens aperture changes. I finally tracked it down - the spring on the aperture coupling ring is broken, so the ring doesn't rest against the AI meter-coupling ridge on the lens. I took off the mount ring (the one held onto the front of the camera with four screws) and found the broken spring, but that's as far as I want to go without some good diagrams. I wonder if this is a common failure.9. From : Lars (Owner-NikonRepair@yahoogroups.com)
