hi, I have 3 Nikon's body

1966-Nikkormat FT with Nikkor-H Auto 50 mm f=2.0
one or two years later I buy a Novoflex bellow and Novoflex Noflexar 135 mm f=4.6 without lens mount (the lens could be mounted on the bellow !)
I had this Nikkormat when I was working as teatcher in Algeria. Many times I went in Sahara's sand storms but the lens & the Nikkormat both works fine.
Only the bellows rails were dommaged because the sand.

1983-Nikon FA body with Vivitar MC Close Focus Wide Angle 28 mm f=2.8 and Nikkon Lens Series E Zoom 70-210 mm f=4.0
With this 2 bodies and 4 lenses I took many black&white slides, color slides : portraits, landscapes, macro of stones or botanic, détails in architecture.

2012 Nikon D5100 with Sigma 17-70 mm f=2.8 macro HSM OS & Sigma 70-300 mm f=4.5-5.6 (& the 4 others lenses !)

Years before my first nikon I had 2 folding body an Agfa => 63-107 mm pictures and a Zeiss Ikonta folding => 40-30 mm pictures both on rollfilm. They had speeds 1/25s, 1/50s, 1/75 s, B & T. Aperture setting was with a hand lever, no lightmeter ! I could shoot outside but only between 09.00 and 18.00 on sunny days.
I think I learned to see with the 2 folding

With the Nikkormat and the Nikon FA and Mecablitz Metz TTL speedlite I could shoot portraits Inside.

Since I have the D5100 I rarely use additional light. I change the ISO setting in 2 situations : photographing inside churches or hiking in the Vosges mountain when I took flovers pictures in a forest.
One thing I have to say : the focusing screen on the Nikkormat & FA is better & more easier for manual focus then the autofocus or manual focus with the D5100. It's because the focusing screen of the 2 film bodies had a stigmometer => precise focusing, no such focusing screen exists on the D5100, what a pitty !

I just bought a Nikomat FTN camera. I want to use the camera but I am totally confused about which flash/strobe to use. This camera has the sync receptacles and no hot shoe but it has a cold shoe. If I remember from my days of doing a little professional photography, the hot shoe supplies a short for the flash to go off. So there is actually no voltage at the hot shoe terminal. Ergo, the strobe only needs a short to trigger. Correct?

Where can I find a flash/strobe or adapter to use with cold shoe? I know I will need a cable to connect the flash to the camera.

Hey guys, I have a Nikkormat FTN camera with a wide angle lens.
I havn't used this camera for a few years. The shutter and film advance work ok and the camera seems to be in good condition.
ISSUE: The camera was made to take 1.3v mercury batteries - murcury batteries are no longer available. I contacted a camera
service in NY and they sold me a WEIN 1.35v zinc MRB625. The battery seems to power the meter however, I cannot center the needle of the meter - it goes from + to - . I have tried combinations f and shutter speeds. Followed the manual when installing the lens.

I need some help and advice. Called NIKON - no response.
I can't go to a camera shop or repair shop. - none in this area.

PLEASE OFFER YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND ADVICE. I LOVE THIS CAMERA
AND WANT TO USE IT FOR MANY OF MY PROJECTS.

THANKS GUY! - BOB

Hi Bill:

The "X" terminal is for electronic flash units, the "M" terminal is for bulbs. Because bulbs light up slowly, the "M" terminal fires the flash a short time BEFORE the shutter begins to open. Therefore if you use a strobe on that terminal, it will fire and go out again before the shutter opens, and you will see the flash fire but the film will not receive any light from it.

I hope I have this right. I have a Nikkormat FTN with a Kiron 105mm f 2.8 Macro Lens. Outside pictures came out great, it when I did some inside pictures I had a problems. All the inside pictures came out blank. The flash I was using is a Sunpak Auto 322. Using 400 speed film and the lens was set at f 11. The flash would not work if plug in "X", but would go off when plug into the "M". How I check the camera and flash after I got the pictures back, everything work fine when plug into "M" shutter work and flash work together. The camera light meter does not work when using this lens, so no reason to use battery. If someone can explain what happen I would be very thankful. Use my email address to get back to me. nanquinn649@yahoo.com Thank you-Bill Quinn

I have a Nikkormat FtN. It sat in a moist basement for quite a while and there is evidence of corrosion. The camera doesn't work:
the film advance mechanism works, the shutter release button "clicks", but does not fire the shutter and is locked until the film is advanced again. The self-timer does not work, can't be engaged or disengaged. I've taken the bottom plate off and can see that moving the ST lever (very stiff) causes interior parts to move, but there is no clockwork activity. This camera would be worth little enough as a working camera, even less broken, so I'm thinking of taking it apart just to investigate how it works. But before I start I'd like to get some idea of how the shutter release button is connected to the shutter, so I can know what to look for and find out why the shutter is not firing. Any reply appreciated. Thanks!

Regards,

Steve

After owning Balda, Zeiss Tenax, Exacta, Leica, Minolta and Fujifilm, and currently using a Panasonic FZ20 with a Leica f2.8 lens I have gone backwards by about 45 years and bought a Nikkormat FTn with a 43 - 86 Zoom Nikor lens. Have ordered a
1.35v battery and a light seal kit, am awaiting their arrival. So have removed all the old, almost-non-existent, light seal material with alcohol and toothpicks. Have a 3-roll pack of fresh film and very soon will test it out to see if all of this is worth it.
It is great to read so much that is available on the net for old Nikkormats.
Accepting advice from all and sundry.
Thank You

Can I use a Nikkor 135mm f/3.5 lens with a Nikkormat FT camera? The lens fits into the camera body OK, but the automatic light meter grove and corresponding pin do not line up nor do they fit together even if aligned. Can this system be made to work with an external light meter, perhaps?
