Just stumbled across this site after a dreadful two-year hiatus from photography. My old FTn, a gift from my mother, had been stolen by an especially crooked set of movers and it was two years before I got another one. (Serial number was FT 3625683 -- if anyone can help track it down, I'd love to get the old codger back into my mother's hands.) One question and one answer for y'all. After my little theft experience in 2000, I've been wondering whether there is an online database to register ownership of cameras based on serial number, somewhere. In case this ever happens again (God forbid) or anything like that. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very thankful. The other thing -- I keep seeing people ask about batteries. I suggest Varta -- it's what's kept my varied beasties fed and metering for a very long time. (Unless I forget and leave the blasted advance lever forward when I put the camera away. Ooops.) They can be found at about any serious photo shop, and in Florida run maybe a buck-fifty a pop. Hope that helps. Cheers!2. From : eva mccarty (major@foothills.net)

I recently purchased a Nikkormat FT3 with six months warranty. I've noticed that the light meter seems to switch itself off if I select a wide aperture and slow shutter speed together. Can anyone tell me if this is a feature of the camera (indicating that the lighting is outside the meter's effective range, I guess), or a problem that needs to be fixed? Best wishes, Chris Tidy

One way or another, some Nikkormatian may need this info. For those who need the mercury PX625 for your camera's meter, there is one source left that I know of. Go to: http://www.px625.com5. From : Bing (bingdu@essex.ac.uk)

Gen, thank you for your info. So to do a multiple exposure with Nikkormat, basically you need to rewind the film back to the previous frame, but it is a bit difficult to rewind one frame precisely. Maybe that is why in the Nikkormat manual it didn't mention the support of the multiple exposure. Bing6. From : Gen Holst (genholst@excite.co.uk)

Bing Du: It may not be too pleasing to hear. Multiple exposure operation with FM, FE and pre-F3 period is very tedious to work correctly. The F2 improved greatly with its registration from the previous F; the Nikkormat may experience different levels of convenient with each model. Overall, unlike the FM, FE and later Nikon SLR models, they are still very difficult to work with. It requires disengaging the film advance mechanism and wind the film back manually to the previous frame to shot. But it is still possible to work with it - as long as you are good enough to handle such task. Cheers.7. From : Mara (mara@smartnet.ca)

When I read info on FM in PIM, it says the multiple feature is eased with FM than F, F2 and Nikkormat. Does the Nikkormat support multiple exposure function?9. From : Mark Butler (mebutler@nyc.rr.com)

I have a Nikomat, purchased in Japan in 1973. Recently it was dropped and the rewind knob broke off. Local repair shops have said they don't stock parts/don't do repairs on cameras this old. Any recommendations for shops that do repairs on cameras like mine? (In U.S.) Thanks.10. The shutter release of my beloved Nikkormat FTn was recently repaired but the tiny self-timer gears were stripped in the process. Does anyone have that part? Thanks very much. Jim Falvo 13911 East 89th St. N. Owasso, OK 74055 (918) 274-8248
