I have my fathers Nikkormat FTn camera from back when he was in high school and he seems to have lost the cover that goes over the battery. with out this, the battery doesn't stay in and it also doesn't work because the other contact for the battery is on the cover of the battery. does anyone know where I could get another cover? thanks a lot.
-Marc

Greetings all!
I am taking a step backward/forward depending on your point of view. I just picked up a FTn. I love the camera and understand how to mount the lens that came with it. My question is...all my other Nikkor lenses don't have the metering tab. Is there a way to mount these so that the meter works? Should I install metering tabs on these lenses? Any help would be great! I don't want to have to start collecting glass all over again! Thanks for any help...Bill

Julie, you are right. I am using that way to mount my FT2. I am more with my FM2n and Nikon F3 now and my FT2 has passed on to my eldest son in school now. It is more than just an imaging tool - like a hard piece of metal, I never worry if he took that for jungle treks and/or camping at the mountain.. ! Your site is cute !

Jeff, there is a way to recalibrate the light meter (unless I'm sorely mistaken)... pop the lens off, and make sure it's set to F/5.6 when you put it back on. Far as I know, this fixes any wonky lightmeter issues.

But, um, don't quote me on that if I'm wrong.

Can someone confirm this theory?

Hi , I just purchased a nikkormatt ftn which came with a micro-p nikkor auto 3.5, I guess its a great lens.
The problem is that the meter is not functioning. I purchased a new battery, and I now know that this doesn't cut it. The question though is should the meter at least flicker with the battery. I'm getting nothing and I fear the meter is broken. Is there any trick to lens instalation I,m not aware of or is there somthing unique about the lens. Thanks, Jeff

Rick Kimmel: See this page (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/fseries/ftn/feature3.htm#flash) which explained: ".... The M- and FP-class bulbs synchronize with the camera at all shutter speeds from B to 1/1000 second, and the MF-class bulbs at speeds up to 1/60 second. The X-terminal is designed for electronic flash units with standard PC synch cord. The electronic flash synchronizes with the camera at 1/125 second, or slower. ..." The M and X terminal are loacted at the side of the camera.

I can't figure out how to change the battery in a Nikkormat EL body that I recently acquired. I don't have a camera manual to guide me. I know the battery is located at the bottom of the mirror box, and it's supposed to be easily accessible when the mirror is raised, but I can't open the battery compartment. I'm afraid that it's going to break if I try to force it. Can anyone out there explain how the battery compartment is supposed to be opened? Thanks.

Hi, I have a Nikomat EL. It is stuck in the same shutter speed. Is it worth fixing? Thanks, Dan Port Townsend, WA
