I recently acquired a Nikkormat FT3 that is in good shape except the screw-on glass eyepiece is missing. Is there any place in the U.S. where one can find a replacement (plain glass).

Carol: I think yours must be a Nikkormat FTn. The manual is at:http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/fseries/ftn/index.htm You can print them in hard copies and save you USD25-00 for an used one.

Jorgen Winqvist: You DON'T NEED a SB-16B for your Nikkormat EL, the Nikon flash has NO advantage over other third party flash such as those made by Sunpak, Metz or the Vivitar because the EL is not equipped with TTL flash mode. The "MD" mode is as good as useful with an EL but the SB-16B is quite powerful and has tilt and bounce adjustments just like any high quality flash provides. Anyway, what I am trying to emphasize is, it doesn't justify the investment with an EL. The Vivitar 285 is good enough and a great companion AUTO/MANUAL flash, it is solidly built, cheap and with a few useful features.

Hello,

I bought my Nikkormat in 1976, and it has been a fantastic camera. In fact I have not gone out to get a newer SLR because I enjoy my old friend. I am not sure of which model it is. I would like to order a manual about that camera. That is my first question. It says FT and a number with a "4" next to that. Also an "N" is above the light meter that one views from the top of the camera. Someone stole the flash from on top years ago, so the appearance is different ( I have a more modern side flash now, with m or x). Also the top of the advance button is missing a piece. I have bought it into a camera repair shop for cleaning etc, but are unhappy with their work. The camera slips when advancing, and the "S-0-2-4" etc. exposure reading doesn't advance but maybe 4 spaces through the course of an entire roll of film. I simply keep a record and count it out, and stop when the film refuses to advance anymore. The rewind lever does show that the film is advancing. I just don't remember things that I used to know about the camera, (ie. depth of field button), and need to order a manual.

Thanks for any information.

Sincerely,
Carol C. of Florida

Virtually all Nikkor lenses that have a Meter Coupling Shoe on top of the Aperture ring can be used with your Nikkormat FT-2: See the rabbit ear ring on this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/lens2.htm It needs that shoe to couple with the metering mechanism on the camera body to provide metering guide. So, lenses such as Nikon Series E and AF Nikkor lenses cannot be used - provided you think you can shoot pictures manually without any metering reference. Anyway, there are plenty of such kind of used Nikkor lenses at popular online auction houses such as Ebay or even at this section of the malasyian site: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/ftz/index.php3

Thanks for a great site. I have an all black FT2 and needed info on what lenses fit. A great feature of this camera is the indepentant mirror tilt.I had it mounted on a large telescope and manually tilting the mirror avoids vibration in astral photography. Hard to find that feature on newer cameras.

I have an all-black Nikkormat (FT 4616967) that I purchased in 1974. I have always loved it and used it fairly often. About three years ago, I found that the meter was not working, even with a new battery, so I had it examined by a repair person. He said a board was cracked and that I have no real hope of getting the camera repaired as parts are just not available. It functions just fine, except no meter. Can you offer any hope or guidance for having it repaired as some reasonable cost, or should I just give up on that? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi! My wife and I are nearing our 25th anniversary. We purchased a Nikkormat F3 camera as our initial gift to each other, and had taken it between Europe and Australia. I was proud of its tattered case..... however, it needs to be retired. Is there any source for a used or new case? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I've taken better care of the camera than the case! Thanks, John Roeber
