MIR has a section featuring various power sources for Nikon equipment. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/htmls/batteries.htm But there is no indication on possible substitutes for obsolete power units such as Mercury cells. Is there any alternate solution ?

Sorry gang, With my previous post I typed "You can buy silver oxide or air call abtteries" It should read "You can buy silver oxide or air cell batteries". Sorry about this error. By the way, my local Nikon distributor say that using a 1.5 volt battery may damage the camera. They have no answer for the 1.3 volt issue. This is why I opted for the adaptor from Frans.

Hello gang, Seems on the thread that a reminder about mercury batteries needs to be noted, so here it is. The Nikomat/Nikkormat and FTN version cameras used a PX 625 Mercury battery which is no longer available. The battery output was 1.35 volts. You can buy silver oxide or air call abtteries which are the same size, but they are 1.5 volts, so your meter reading will be inaccurate. The way around this is to consider purchasing a PX625 Battery Adaptor, which is what I have done, and the results are perfect. Go to this web site for further info. Frans is a great guy, very helpful. http://www.rolleiclub.nl/PX625replacement.html Or you can use a Silver Oxide 625 battery, but then the camera meter will need to be adjusted by a service center. All the best with this. Best regards from Sydney Australia, David Powell.

Hi All! Me and My father are working onto our old nikkormat EL, because it's non longer functional... WE NEED HELP! The fact is that the titanium curtain doesn't open when the "click button" is pressed... we think is a fault of the spring, but we don't know how to open the solid body of the camera to reach the spring. Does Anyone have a "Exploded Diagram" of this camera? or can anyone explain how to do this? Thank you very much! (P.S: if you can, answer preferably via mail...) Au Revoir by Barto & Father...

What a wonderful resource you are! Thanks for being here. I just inherited my father's Nikkormat FTn. I know it's a great camera, so the first thing I did was run to the store for a new battery. Seems that mercury batteries are no longer made. I was sold the modern replacement, but was warned it might not work. What gives? Any help would be appreciated. Janet

Hi Nikonholics! Its Spring (or almost ) in Copenhagen,Denmark, and its a joy to see ! people jump for the lighter /brighter days,i couldnt resist it, and then i picked up my Nikkormat FT-3 and was so glad to the fact that i could just pick a new Pro Nikkor 70-300 with ED glass and just take some pictures;astonishing that a 25 year old camera goes along with the new gear from Nikon, what other brand can do that? Great to be a Nikonholic

I own a Nikkormat FTn that has worked perfectly for more than 30 years. (Had the meter repaired when it was a couple of years old, but that was it.) It has taken many wonderful pictures, some of which have won prizes in local contests.

Recently the mask in the frame counter has rotated so that the line does not point to the correct frame number. This does not seem to have any affect on the camera's operation. I got a comment from another FTn owner whom I met over the internet that he had the same problem. It would appear that this should be something easy to fix -- perhaps a screw needs to be tightened? Does anyone have any insight into the cause or correction of this problem? I'd like to know before taking it in for repair. Thanks!

Hi, I'm glad I found this site! Have owned a Nikkormat FT for several years now and have learned quite a lot about it here today. It's a very sturdy camera and takes great pictures. My question is regarding the lens and the lens speed. I see the lens is great for extemely close shots, but wonder what the speed is? 3.5? Also I wonder is this a variable aperture zoom lens or a primary lens with one focal length? Is there a way to set the lens at a particular speed? Say, from 35-55mm?

Here's What the lens says: Micro-Nikkor Auto 1:3.5 f=55mm

Any help is greatly appreciated.

any help would be apprieciated
found a nikomat #FT 3698764 at a thift center for $10.00 . would like any info on what i can rerplace battery with. not a real collector, i just like shooting with the old cameras. the battery that was in it looks like some sort of too small button cell with a ring to make it fit, but is not working. i figure that is maybe why it ended up where i found it. any other info would also be usefull, like i say, i'm not a collector, but i like to read, please send email or urls. thanks
