For those of you who has problems with your older Mnaual focus Nikon bodies, you can check with this Danish gentleman "Lars H Hansen" whom I think is maintaining a Nikon Repair User Group; I have forgotten his exact URL but he has a email address at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/ais_lars.htm

I have a beautiful ELW Nikkormat. I use it to photograph jewelry that I design and have an extensive setup for it. The shutter has recently started to give me trouble and seems to be sticking. I love this camera! It takes the best pictures and to replace it would be out of my budget. It sound like this is a common problem, but what do I do? Since none of the repair shope will touch it to even do a cleaning!(parts are no longer available) Does anyone have a suggestion?

I've got an Nikomat FT2 that was given to me by my father but I have a problem with the camera. My past 2 rolls have been over exposed. So I take the lens off to check the shutter, and it seems that the shutter is acting as if it's in the B pos. all the time. The shutter remains open on all speeds as long as my finger is depressing the shutter release button. Even in the 1000 pos. How can I fix this?

FIXED MY METER!!! OK when I got mt ebay camera (FTn) the battery was very old and the compartment dirty. I tossed in a new one and the meter was dead. Checking with an ohmmeter there was an open circuit. Took the bottom plate off (two screws) and then the battery compartment (one screw). Low and behold the yellow wire was corroded clean off the solder lug. In fact the corrosion had destroyed the wire to where I couldn't solder it back on so I had to take the top cover off (harder) and fish a new wire up through the body to the circuit board above the prism. All in all it took about an hour. I suspect this is a common problem with old Nikons that have been sitting a long time with a battery in them. If anyone needs more in direction please feel free to email me at bnhazard@cs.com. Good luck! Bob

Toba: NO. Not the FT-2 (May be the FT-3, which is an AI-bodied Nikon is better). The AF-D lenses can only be mounted on the FT2 and take pictures manually BUT there will be no metering guide available. The BEST manual focus Nikon SLR camera safe for using most AF Nikkor lenses (except the G-Series Nikkor AF lenses) with Mirror lock up mechanism while retaining full netering compatibility is the Nikon F3. See this excellent site fpor Nikon F3 at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/index.htm

I just got my "beater" Nikormat FTn from an Ebay seller. It was very dusty as it had sat around with out a body cover for a long time. Everything seems to work accept the meter. I put in a fresh aluminum/air cell. Nada. It wont move with the cocking lever out or in. Mounted a lens. Anybody know how hard it is to remove the top of the camera to check the wiring and the off on switch? I think that because of lack of use the switch contacts may be glazed and not contacting. Help?? Bob

I have an N70 and several AF-D lenses. I want to do some closeup work and want
a body w/ mirror lock up and DOF preview. I have identified the Nikkormat FT2 as
a likely candidate. Question: Will the AF-D lenses stop down with the manual DOF
preview in the FT2? I suspect the answer is no, but does anyone know. I am looking
at a body at KEH.com and cannot lay my hands on an FT2 locally to check it.

After many years owning and using two nikkormat ftn with great satisfaction, alas I need to get both repaired.
I hope to find repairs for one with a failed shutter, and one with a lens jammed on the lens mount.
perhaps I can find a used ftn camera that I can purchase? If anyone knows of a working nikkormat ftn body for sale, please contact me by e-mail at- adavisus@aol.com
