Thanks Rick!
Is there an on-line maintenance (dissection) manual for the FTn? I've restored a few old Argus C-3's to be in working order so I have some (albeit limited) experience.4. From : Rick Oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Matt:
That's pretty common... the counter dial is just dirty and sticky. Cleaning it involves removing the top cover from the camera, it would probably be best to have it done by a repair shop.5. From : Matt A. (bluewolves@comcast.net)

Hello folks! Just a quick query regarding one of my FTns. The exposure counter doesn't reset when the camera is reloaded. If I gently tap the top of the body it will slowly creep back to S. It's not a major issue, more of an annoyance as it's been like this for years. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!6. From : Rick Oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Velll... first career use a electronic tech trained to the component level... so were giving her a try. Got everything I can see that can stop the top from coming off according to a Nikon Repair Handbook that I was able to access via internet. But gently tugging and prying, the top still seems to be firmly attached. Removed the battery check button, but not the lens that the light shows through when you push the button that was removed. Does the yellow light lens need to be detached? If so how?
Here's a review of what I've done..
-ASA all gone and can see rim of case that the black mounting for the ASA pokes through.
-Front Nikkromat name plate removed but nothing else touched underneath it.
-Shutter Speed dial removed and can see rim of case all around it with the brass mounting for it, sticking through with the button for pushing it down to allow it to be taken out of Automatic exposure on top.
-Shutter release 'nut' removed with its core sticking through and being able to see the rim of the case all around it.
-Film advance removed, with its base sticking through and the spring still attached to, what appears as a washer underneath. NOW THERE IS A BRASS 'NUT' THAT MAY BE HOLDING DOWN THAT POSSIBLE WASHER. YET I CAN SEE THE RIM OF THE CASE ALL AROUND THIS TREADED MOUNTING COLLER. ** DOES THIS BRASS 'NUT' NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF?
-Two screws removed, one on right side of case when looking from the back, and one on the back right of the eye piece.
The hot shoe in the Repair Handbook picture does not appear to be able to be taken off. Yet, I wondered if its glued or something and that this may be the hang up
Sure appreciate your time and any thoughts you might add.
Thanks p.

Hi Peter:
Since it happened from an impact, there is a good chance that the meter needle is physically bent or stuck, or (hopefully less likely) that the spindle has come out of its bearing and jammed.
Either of these should be a fairly easy and inexpensive job for a repairman, but I really don't recommend digging into it yourself. If you try and fail and THEN take it to a repairman, you will not make him very happy.
