I have a black Nikkormat FT3 with a dented bottom cover. I wonder whether this bottom cover is interchangable with that of the FTN?

Hi Kendra:
The first thing you need to know is the ISO speed of your film. It could be anywhere from 100 to 400 or higher. Then:
1: Does the light meter work in your camera? What ASA is the meter set at? Set the ASA on the meter to the same number as the ISO of your film, and adjust the aperture and shutter speed controls so that the needle in the viewfinder is centered in the bracket. (make sure you have a good battery and all that stuff too... this gets a little complicated as the FTN uses a mercury battery that you can't get any more. Click on my URL above for some ideas on that)
if the meter doesn't work:
2: Shooting outdoors, set your shutter speed to the same number as the ISO speed of your film, or the closest available number. If you have ISO 400 film, for example, use 1/500 second. Now use the lens aperture to adjust for different lighting conditions:
- Full sunlight: f/16
- Hazy sunlight: f/11
- Light overcast, don't see shadows: f/8
- Open shade on a sunny day: f/5.6
As you can see from the above, if you had a roll of ISO 400 film in the camera and used a shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/125, you would get severe overexposures in sunlight.

I just purchased a used Nikkormat ftn and I shot with black and white fill (c-41) and all of the prints came out over exposed. When I was shooting outside in the summer sun I kept the shutter speed around 50-125. Is the problem that I should have been shooting in the 250-100 range or is it directly mechanical? I'm just wondering if there is something wrong with my camera...9. From : Morley Goddard (morley.goddard@rogers.com)

The Nikkormat FTn was my first slr camera and I still think of it. Some forty years later, I've renewed my interest in photography, but still remenber my Nikkormat. I had the 55mm f/3.5 macro lens then and took macro pictures of wild flowers on Manitoulin Island in Ontario Canada. I still have the slides and I'm slowly converting them into digital files. I'd love to buy a Nikkormat FTn or a FT2 along with the Nikkor 55mm macro lens I had. I've been searching the internet and I've come close to finding this kit.10. Nikkormat FTn locked up! The film advance lever and the shutter release button are locked on my Nikkormat. I was able to advance the film advance lever about one third of the way before it locked. To make matters worse, the self timer is also locked. Any ideas?
