Rick, Thank you, that is the information I was looking for. I had thought that the silver black ones might have been the first issues. Thanks again.

Hi David: Do you just mean the ones with chrome top & bottom covers as compared to the black painted ones? If so, these 2 versions were made side by side in all years, the all black was sold for a slightly higher price. Parts are interchangeable between the two.

Only Nikon FM-10 was outsourced to Cosina. Nikkormat ? NO WAY. Those are prime days of the Nikon days of mechanical enginnering products.

AS far as not realising the two body colorations, the FT3 main page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/fseries/ft3/index.htm Shows the two bodies. I have also seen classifieds (Ebay and other) for the FT3's and they mention black or silver/black bodies...as well as pictures. Is this just a possible error, or was one year black and the others black and silver, vice versa or mixed?

The reason I am wondering is because my father has a black FT3 that will not meter corectly anymore. It has been "fixed" as best as teh company that did it could do, and thought it is better, the metering is still off by a stop or so. He and I were discussing possibly finding another body to use or for metering parts etc...as he loves the camera, and knows it well. So...would a black and silver body be interchangeable for parts, and/or will it work just as well as the black? Hopefully someone has a bit of information. Thanks.

Where did you hear that, Mike? I've never seen a Cosina product that remotely approached the build quality of a Nikkormat, before or since. If they had built Nikkormats, you'd think they'd have been capable of putting that same quality into something else later. The Nikon FM and FM2 match the Nikkormat feel, as well as its design layout, more closely than any other camera I've used.... I don't think Cosina made them either. rick :)=

Rumor has it that Nikkormat was made by Cosina for Nikon. Who knows? I have used only Nikkormats since they first appeared for my travel photography. I have all the useful lenses. I'm totally satisfied with these bodies.

Hi Rob: Any standard, non-dedicated flash will work on the FT2. A good choice looks like the Metz 36M-1, available from Jessops for about 33 pounds.
