Last year I resurrected my dad's old camera's. One was an Nikkromat El, with a working, seemed to be accurate meter. Vellll... both camera's were loaded in a day pack for shooting the next morning and the weight shifted I guess, causing the pack to fall off the chair. Since then, they always sit on the floor now. Anyway, checked both camera's but the El meter needle would not move. I dissembled the camera to a point, but it got to hairy, so put it back together, and been shooting it with a light meter. No big deal.
Now just the other day, wanted to take a picture of a sculpture that has its front, facing away from the light in a small enclosed area. Sooo, I resurrected dear 'ole dads flash to use as fill. The El being empty of film I started getting familiar with the operation of the flash and discovered that the meter is working, just not the needle. On the shoot I put it in Automatic, and it worked. The memory lock works. Everything works except the black needle.
Any ideas to get it 'unstuck'.2. From : Rick Oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Clydespal:
I don't know which Nikkormat you have; have you looked here:
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/fseries/index.htm
The links at the bottom of that page will show you a lot of information on all Nikkormat models, including how to operate them.
There are also some scans of original manuals available online. Here is one for the FT:

Hi Megan:
If you remove the lens and look inside, you can see a strip of black foam rubber across the top, between the front edge of the focusing screen and the lens mount. The mirror hits this foam when it rises. The foam degrades and gets sticky with age, and sometimes the mirror sticks to it. This is the most common cause of the symptoms you describe.
The light seals around the back of the camera are made of the same stuff - if the mirror bumper is going bad, the light seals are probably bad too and should be replaced. There is a guy who sells very good foam replacement kits on eBay under the name "interslice". I recommend getting one of those and replacing your foam, or having it done if you don't want to do it yourself.

Hi.
I have the FTn and up until now everything has been working great. Unfortunately, in the last little while, there seems to be something wrong with the shutter. After the image is recorded, the mirror (?) stays locked for a second or two before opening. What is causing this?
Thanks.9. From : Carlton.R.Taylor (kirkbarrow.garage@tiscali.co.uk)

Hello with what to me seem's a simple problem. I have a Nikkormat FTn and just got the hotshoe adaptor which to me seem's like the viewfinder should screw off and then screw back on to hold it in place. Is this correct or do I need another viewfinder bracket/holder to utilise the hot shoe adaptor ?
Thankong all in advance.

Hi Jeanne:
The back latch for the Nikkormats is at the bottom left corner of the camera, a little chrome tab that you pull downward. If the back doesn't pop open when you do that, it probably means that the light seals have become sticky and are holding it shut ... in that case, just tug on the edge of it while holding the latch tab down.
