Hi david: I don't know if they would be close enough or not. The difference between the FT2 and FT3 is in the metering systems: the FT2 is Non-AI and the FT3 is AI. It's possible, though, that the difference is entirely in the coupling mechanisms around the lens mount and the electronics might be identical. rick :)=

Hi Barbra Ann: For the Nikkormat FT, you can use any Nikon mount lens that has the metal "fork" attached near the 5.6 on the aperture ring. This includes the original "Non-AI" series that was made at the same time as the camera, as well as later AI and AI-S Nikkor lenses. Any Nikon-mount lenses made by other brands (Tokina, Vivitar, etc) should work fine as well. Of course, Nikkors are the best lenses.

For a flash, any standard, non-dedicated flash should work, as long as it has a PC cord to attach to the flash outlet on the camera (an electronic flash must be plugged into the "X" outlet - the one marked "M" is for bulbs). Since the FT has no flash shoe built in, you will also need a flash bracket to hold the flash... these attach with a screw to the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera. There are not many non-dedicated flash units being made any more.... one that I think is still available is the Vivitar 2000, which is inexpensive and should give good service. Used ones should be easy to find on eBay or at used equipment dealers like www.KEH.com.

I was wondering if the FT-2 and FT-3 were almost interchangeable. I have found a repair manual for my dad's FT-3, but it has the FT-2 Exposure meter parts/dissassembly/ assebly/ adjustment etc.. AND a full parts list for the FT-2 also...but no FT-3 meter info or parts list. The manual has the FT3 manual number (31F3B-R.2098.A) on all pages though. Can this be used as a direct manual for the FT-3 or is there some vital difference in the two models of camera? Dave.

Hi Nat and D Craig: Try this repair service directory. There's nothing particularly exotic about a Nikkormat that makes it hard to service, but maybe these days the people who work on them are just getting old and retiring :(= http://acecam.com/srindex.html
