Hi theresa: cleaning the viewing screen in the nikkormat would require disassembling the camera.... something that should be left to a professional repair service. it might not be a bad idea anyway to have a CLA (clean/lubricate/adjust service) done on the camera, since it doesn't sound like it's been serviced recently. in the meantime, the dirty viewfinder will not affect the camera's performance. rick :)=2. My Nikkormat meter is pegging at the max +. I replaced the battery with a new Varta V625U and it does the same thing. If I cup my hand over the lens (50 mm 1.4) I can see the needle come down into the middle section. Changing shutter speeds and apatures does nothing. I mounted the lens correctly with full turn to insure coupling. Any suggestions?4. From : Gen Holst (genholst@excie.co.uk)

allen dardenelle: Ask the technician to drop dead... you might as well buy a Nikon FE as a good backup or use your Nikormmat as spare - One electronic and mechanical Nikon each, how much .. (probably around below USD150-160 -with a little bit of patience that is not difficult to scout for one good unit). The FE has a TTL meter too and best of all, your previous non-Ai Nikkor lenses can also be used in stopped down AE metering with the camera. You can make use of the FE's meter as a metering guide for your FTn until you have found a cheap solution for a fix else where.5. From : allen dardenelle (adard@comcast.net)

I have a Nikkormat FTN. It has been used very spearingly. The light meter doesn't work, the shutter speed dial ring if off by one speed and the felt seals near the hinges where the film is inserted needs to be replaced. camera shop. This is according to a camera shop repairman. He wants $ 189.00 to clean and fix the above mentioned problems. Is,there a manual or somewhere that can teach me how to clean my Nikkormat? It still takes beautiful pictures and is a classic camera. Thank you.6. From : Rick Oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Franz: I think the MS76 is correct; the FT2 was the first Nikkormat to use a silver oxide cell instead of the mercury PX625 used in the earlier ones.If your meter doesn't seem to be reading right, I'd refer it to a repair service. Getting it right at all levels can be a complex task, especially if you don't have a standard light source to work with. rick :)=7. From : franz (salzburg@sympatico.ca)

Could anyone tell me the correct battery to be used with a nikkormat ft2. I have been offered several options and am not sure which is right. My local camera store suggested a duracell MS 76. Also is the meter in this camera easy to adjust? Mine seems to be off a bit.. I have had this camera since my 16th birthday when I got it new. Dont ever want to retire it.. Thanks Franz in Montreal8. I have inherited a 1976-77 Nikkormat EL that was damaged a year ago. I was quoted $202 Canadian (or $143 USD) for the repairs. Is it worth it to pay this much to restore the camera? How much do you think a similar camera would be priced if in mint condition? N9. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)
