Hi Joe:

I don't know if Nikon would still service a Nikkormat, but they are located in California; if you call them perhaps they can help you or make a suggestion. Here is some contact information that I grabbed off of the Net:

Service & Repair call (800) Nikon SV

19601 Hamilton Ave.
Torrance, CA 90502

www.nikonusa.com

I know you said you prefer not to deal with an independent, but you may find that you have no choice. There is a directory of camera service centers, sorted by location, at http://acecam.com/srindex.html

Having said all that, if your camera is still giving good service, I think an argument can be made for just continuing to use it until you encounter some sign of a problem. There is always some small element of risk in disassembling a camera for service; if the camera needs repair then the benefit is worth the risk, but if it's working fine it may not be.

I'm the original owner of a 1971 Nikormat. It has been a faithful companion on many trips including a 5 week trip through Europe. With the exception of a battery change, I have done nothing to this camera. Absolutely no maintenance.

Should I have it tuned up? If so, I would like a recommendation on a Nikon service facility in the US/California. I don't want to send it to an independent operator as I've notice a few have closed shop since the advent of digital camera equipment. The rubber gasket on the body that contacts the door has dried out and I don't want to risk using film if there is a break in the light seal.

BTW - thumbs up on this website.

Thanks in advance.

Joe
California

I have a Nikkormat FT3 body (plus 3 Nikon lenses - 28mm, 50mm and 135mm) I purchased in 1978 (second hand) but excellent condition. It has given me many years of good service, although now the light meter has stopped working (I have tried a new battery). Otherwise, it is still in very good condition. Two questions:
1. How much is it worth?
2. Is it worth getting the light meter repair? If so, where? (I live near Stoke on Trent)

Many thanks. Jim Wood

I have a question regardinf EL2.
Are viefinder accessory like diopter adjustment pieces compatible with FMFE series cameras or EL2 has its own uncompatible accessory?

Peter: Nikkormat EL meter not working: Maybe it is not the needle but the switch on the winding lever. Mine got sticky once then suddenly started working again.

So I recently let my Nikkomat FT-2 get a little wet and now the light meter doesn't work. I tried replacing the battery and no go. Is this a repair that can be feasibly done at home assuming the person is at least handy enough to find this message board? =)
