I am trying to resurrect my Nikkormat FT3, and cannot fine my light meter batter. All I know is that it is a 1.5 V silver-oxide battery. Does anyone have a product number for this, or better yet, a source for ordering a replacement battery?

Hi Manny: Grip the lens by the focusing ring and turn the ring all the way clockwise. now, press the release button and continue turning the focus ring clockwise until the index dot on the top of the lens lines up with the dot at the upper right on the front of the body. the lens should now lift off.

I need help! I just got a Nikkormat FTn and in testing it I attached a Tamron-F 28mm lens (with the rabbit ears or prongs) to the camera body. Now i cannot get it off. Is there a proceduRe to disengage the lens from the body that I should follow? The stud from the camera speed ring is in place in the notch created by the ears. When i press the lens release buttom nothing seems to happen and I am afraid to torque the lens barrel for fear of damaging it. There is not a lot of room to grab the lens and turnit right since the spped ring and aperture ring rotate with each attempt at turning the lens to the right to disengage. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

Hi George: I think you should be able to, except for metering, but with all the differences and incompatibilities that Nikon has been introducing lately I'm never sure any more. It will not damage anything to give it a try. You need to check for the following things:

- The lens must have an aperture select ring on it.
- The lens must stop down to the selected aperture when used on the Nikkormat (you can check this with the Depth of Field button)
- If you want to be able to meter conveniently, you should have a coupling fork installed on it. In at least some newer Nikon lenses, you can see a pair of dimples either side of the 5.6 on the aperture ring: these are put there as guides for drilling the holes to add the coupling fork. The presence of these is a good assurance (I would think) that the lens is otherwise fully compatible with the older Non-AI cameras, and if they are providing those presumably they are also making the forks available to service facilities for installation. Without the fork, you need to keep the metering pin on the camera in its parked position and stop down the lens to take a meter reading.

Hi Tony, I have a Nikkormat case I don't really need. I was going to put it on Ebay. I tried to write you at your email but got a message saying Earthlink's spam blocker stopped it. Write me if you want to know more about it.

Hi Larry: I think you raise the mirror and pick up the front edge of the floor with a fingernail.

Does anyone know how to access the battery on a Nikkormat EL? I remember it's accessed via the lens mount, but I can't find a lever that opens the compartment

I have a Nikomat/Nikkormat EL and I'm looking to replace the camera hard case (CH-3) that screws onto the main body of the camera. It has a black leather covering with a maroon soft cloth inside. Please call (901)755-5445 (Memphis, TN) with help. Thanks - Tony

Hi Ernie: If they're right about needing parts, your only source will be another Nikkormat, and then you might still be getting a pretty well worn part. It's still a beautiful, reliable camera and worth using with a hand-held meter in my opinion...
