Hi everyone. I need some advice. I have a Nikkormat EL Serial # 5342903. Meter works fine with new battery, but when I adjust the settings knob for shutter speed, it seems that the shutter speed does not change. In other words it seems to open for the same amount of time at the higher numbers as well as the lower numbers.

Any advice as to cause of the problem and repair options is appreciated.

Thank you.

I cleaned up old foam from my two Nikkormat FT2s and "installed" new foam from two new Light Seal Kits from CO. The door hinge (one piece for the inside panel only) and the mirror damper worked well, I feel. The channel strips were difficult even with an intense close lamp and a magnifying glass, but I thought they were there to stay. This morning they were stuck, in part, to the door flanges. Ouch!! I had pressed them, adhesive down, (mostly :( ) to the bottom of the channels. We're they supposed to be on the inside or outside? Jenkintown is very near! LOL Al

hi lisa: i don't know how soon you're going to find a battery cap for your nikkormat; you might watch ebay for a beat-up nonworking body that you can get cheap, and resell it for parts after you get what you need from it.

in the meantime you have a great camera, it just doesn't have a light meter in it. so here are some very basic guidelines to let you use it without a meter.

start by loading it with ISO 400 film, then follow these settings:

in bright sunlight, f/16 at 1/500
on a hazy day, f/8-11 at 1/500
daytime shade outdoors, f/5.6 at 1/500
indoors in typical office light, f/4 at 1/60
indoors at home, daytime, f/2.8 at 1/60
same in the evening, f/2.8 at 1/30

if you use a different ISO film speed, just change the shutter speed in proportion to the difference in ISO number.

also, you don't need a meter to use flash, so that option is still available.

I own a Nikkor-HC Auto 1:2 f=50mm lens, and the colors on aperture ring have faded, especially the 5.6, 2.8 and 2; can anyone tell me the original colors of these numbers (16,11,8,5.6,4,2.8 and 2) ?? Also, I would like to know the colors of the 4 lines to either side of the depth of field arrow; any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, stew Johnson
