I am having real trouble with a Nikkormat El I have been give, with no manual. I am ashamed to say that I have been unable to load the film successfully and take pictures. I managed it once, but after three shots it appeared to jam - ie I couldn't press the shutter. Inspiration welcomed!

Hi Leif: That's a good testament to the durability of these, extremely well-designed and well-made cameras. The Nikkormat series has always been a little underrated because they didn't carry the "Nikon" name... which is a shame, but the good news is that they're available at reasonable prices today. Of course, in fairness, your Canon FT-QL is probably still working well too...... :)=

I bought my Nikkormat EL in 1976 (I had an Canon FTQL) - the all-black model. I am still using it to get real good pictures where the resolution of my digital Fuji FP S602Z is not enough (mostly butterflies and insects).
During all these years I have never had any problem with it, and last month I managed to get a very fine Nikkor-Q Auto 1:4 f=200mm (cheap). They´ll never build cameras like these nowadays! I hope I´ll be able to get batteries to it for many years...but you never know. I realized that I must have taken over 50.000 pictures with the Nikkormat EL - and everything is working OK! Regards from Sweden

Does anyone have another Nikkormat parts source other than Pacific Rim camera Parts? I am looking for two new replacement FT3 Nikkormat Black top covers for two of my cameras and unfortunately they no longer have any. Is there another place in the world to find two of these NIKON service replacement parts new and unblemished? Please help and send an email. Thank you!

Hi mmfonck: The EL does need a battery, not only for the meter but to operate the camera's electronic shutter. The battery is in the floor of the mirror box; you have to remove the lens and raise the mirror to reach it. :)=
