Collection of my Thai Religious Amulets/Pendants - Message Board/Guestbook

Religious Thai Amulets are immensely popular among many Thai locals or even the Chinese that residing in South East Asia - probably most followers never have the chance to worship the religion and hopefully with the little image that we wear on the body can provide some form of relief. As I mentioned in the site, probably it takes a Thai to create such a high quality website features specifically on these lovely collective pendants. As I can never be claimed knowledgeable in this strong thai traditions but since I am a web developer in nature, I create this solely for personal consumption and hope to provide a linkage among all passionate collectors. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Enjoy.

Brother Lip: welcome to the board. Yeap, this episode is both a bad and sad experience. But sometimes when I think of it as a trading business it is all boiled down to supply and demand. i.e. Thailand has 60+ million population with Buddhist as majority. Assuming 20% of the population uses amulets, it will come to 12 million ! NO matter how many Guru Monks were there, it cannot possibly be producing amulets to satisfy all the needs. So, it is not surprising to see temples now engaging into "mass production". Indirectly, demands for older (acceptably good ones by reputable sources) have become even in a stronger demand than ever and naturally, it is synchronizes with appreciation in their respective value simply because the financially established ones will usually are more engagaed in trying to locate "more powerful ones". Assuming NOT all Thai are true Buddhist with a good/strong faith in their religious belief, when combining a business mind with an evil thought, faked amulets are produced (and in a big way). I am not suggesting your friend's purchased are a fake. But it is just a produce to satisfy demand. Further, even temples are busy "manufacturing" amulets in mass output Those days, temples made amulets with good intention to protect the believers as they bought for renovations and keeping the temples as centres to promote Buddhism. Today, the business minded people around are trying to inspire the temple management for a quicker way. I do hope the good intention behind are still the same in this kind of fund raising process. Don't worry, Thailand has a National Body in charge of nationwide temples administration which monitoring such activities but not those underground production which is duties of the department of "domestic consumers affairs" and the Police task force.

Anyway, what I suggest for new comers is, DON'T WORRY if the amulets is NEW, as long as they are REAL (usually they are cheaper to own one as well). In a typical fashion, DON"T FORGET why we acquire Buddhist amulet(s) for and WHAT are they representing in the ROOT of our belief. LASTLY, amulet DOESN'T always = $$$$ and $$$ don't always guaranteed more $$$ with expensive set(s). Personally, following the basic teaching of Lord Buddha inherited to us from 2500 years ago which MADE US A BUDDHIST is more important. Metta, K.T.

Hai, everybody. I am from Bruas, Perak. Good to find this forum. Collecting amulets can be a painful at times, recently a friend shown a "brilliantly decorated with a diamond in middle" Soomdej image he rented from an undisclosed roadside spot, paid RM600-00 and came back cursing (from KL Pudu plaza) that the piece he rented was easily available in KL shops. He asked why people like to cheat in trade esp when relates to Buddhist belief. Sad huh ?

I have invited Chng Hoon Hoon to be part of the MB maintenance team. Hopefully, he can channel some personal knowledge and helping out on this board. All the team members have their respective personal E-mail contact at the bottom of this page. If you find some questions difficult to ask on a public forum, you are all welcome to do so in seeking personal advice (but try to avoid asking me, please.. I am still not good enough to help in the world of Buddhist amulets collecting). Thank You.
