Collection of my Thai Religious Amulets/Pendants - Message Board/Guestbook

Religious Thai Amulets are immensely popular among many Thai locals or even the Chinese that residing in South East Asia - probably most followers never have the chance to worship the religion and hopefully with the little image that we wear on the body can provide some form of relief. As I mentioned in the site, probably it takes a Thai to create such a high quality website features specifically on these lovely collective pendants. As I can never be claimed knowledgeable in this strong thai traditions but since I am a web developer in nature, I create this solely for personal consumption and hope to provide a linkage among all passionate collectors. Ken, you are asking a very difficult to answer question. First, Leela is like Soomdej. There are literally many Soomdej being produced by various temples across the Thai Kingdom. Authenticate is not just via a simple picture to determine its origin. Many more established temples usually had a official emblem if not they have their own version which is unique to collectors as well as those who may be seasoned enough to identify their origin. Leela is not entirely an image form which is exclusively produced by a sole source. Take the example of the Kring, we do know Suthat has the most famous Krings, but there are many such as produce from Wat Borworn, Wat Prasat, Wat Therin, Wor Kaw etc... many of which one may not even heard of. The leela picture you shown is difficult to even judge as it was poorly taken and the rear not being shown which is even making others difficult to pass on a comment. Usually, red clay image are (generally) from the Northern Region. The posture is a classic Leela form. But even then, I cannot tell with the limited info from a photo taken (An example on authentity is to show the densely coated dust to see if it was an original from long deposition). If Hoon2 can deliver and quote a source of its origin with these limited info furnished, he is my real master. haha.. (just kidding). But just to share a thought here, that is all.

1. Dear hoon2, What is the difference between Phra Leela, Phra Leela 25 Buddha Sattawas & Leela Medkhanoon ??? Is Phra Somkor are the same as Phra Leela?

2. By the way, when you said my amulet is Leela Medkhanoon, are you refering the amulet from this link (http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image.php?e669f50b6b.jpg) ???

3. Can someone share with the Katha for Phra Leela Medkanoon and Katha for Phalad Khid(penis Amulet)?

Will appreciate if someone could help... And thanks for the wonderful website!

Richard, in KL may be you should try to talk to Miss May, she is very Buddhist in nature. She offers basic amulets framing services as well: Try to locate the contact at:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/leofoo/Thai-amulets/amulet-cases/index.htm

I will try to talk to her when I am free to keep some books there for KL enthusiasts (may be 10-15 volume for a start), consignment basis, if can't get rid of them, tell her I will sponsor (just in case) any unsold copies.

Hi Ken Chua,

The Phra amulet picutre that you have is the Leela Medkhanoon and is a member of the Benjapakkhi group. The original Leela is an antique about 500 years old found in the Kampaneg petch area (northern Thailand). Info about the Benja group of amulets ie 5 GRand Holy Amulets can be found on the internet. There should be a lot of it.

The amulet is also known as "Thung Settee" in Thai mean bring lots of wealth. Some of the Monks that I ahve associated with in the past told me that Thung Settee also bring charisma - smoothen the way in your work.

Personally, believe in the power of the Buddha-Dharma, things will work out well for you. Good luck.

Dear KT, i tink you are quite right there. I oso find that my amulet looks very much like Phra Leela. The only different is the right hand is up to his chest and his head is surrounded by a circle + he is standing on a Lotus. Most od Phra Leela right hand is down and there are no circle surrounding his head. Thank you KT for the info, and I hope more bro/sis frm this community will help to verify. Thank you very much

Richard, you should ask around if any local amulet shops (KL, Singapore, Penang etc.) if anyone is interested to act as a distribution agent for your Guru's work. Don't get in too many, 10-15 books each location for a start. What do you think ? Or amy be ask leo to create a single page as introduction in your collection page (good idea, actually...).
