Collection of my Thai Religious Amulets/Pendants - Message Board/Guestbook |
Religious Thai Amulets are immensely popular among many Thai locals or even the Chinese that residing in South East Asia - probably most followers never have the chance to worship the religion and hopefully with the little image that we wear on the body can provide some form of relief. As I mentioned in the site, probably it takes a Thai to create such a high quality website features specifically on these lovely collective pendants. As I can never be claimed knowledgeable in this strong thai traditions but since I am a web developer in nature, I create this solely for personal consumption and hope to provide a linkage among all passionate collectors. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. I read the original sales " Somdej 1st Batch Grey..LP Daeng Wat Khao Bandai-It: Made BE 2513 PRICE: 63.00 GBP=425.339 MYR United Kingdom Pounds / Malaysia Ringgits http://www.thai-amulets.com/amulet_details1.php?id=217&page=1&lower=0
Details: These splendid amulets were created in a number of different colours including red, white and yellow. This particular amulet is the grey variety and is in fair condition. The amulet was made specifically for the devotees of Luang Phor Daeng that assisted in the restoration and re-construction of the temple. The amulets were blessed in excess of 300 temples from B.E. 2507 until B.E 2511. The amulets were then blessed for a further three years by Luang Phor Daeng. As such this particular batch of Somdej amulets are commonly known as the '2513 Batch'
The amulets were then taken to Wat Dhepsirin where they were blessed a further two times by Dhan Chao Khun Nor on April 25 BE 2513 and December 5th B.E 2513. Prior to the distribution on October 14th B.E 2514 the amulets were also blessed at Wat Yai ( Chinnaraj), Wat Nangphya, Wat Sothorn and Wat Doi Mae Pang (LP Waen).. Properties: For almost 40 years this amulet has been proven time and time again to be one of the most efficacous amulets of the modern era, providing the wearer with Klaew Klaad (free from all harm) and Kong KraphanChatri (invincibility). Notes: Do not confuse this amulet with the later 2nd batch amulets which are very slightly different in appearance. This is GUARANTEED to be a genuine 1st batch Somdej amulet by Luang Phor Daeng"...."
Thai-Amulet site on LP Daeng:
http://www.thai-amulets.com/monk_details.php?name=LP%20Daeng
it says " ...LP Daeng's formal monkhood name is " PhraKru Yanwilas" but people popularly call him " Luang Phor Daeng". LP Daeng ordained in the monkhood in B.E.2441 and was a close disciple of LP Plian, the then Abbot of Wat Kao Ban Dai-it. After LP Plian passed away in B.E.2461, LP Daeng was learning Dhamma and magical khowledge with LP Chui of Wat Kongkaram, the greatest Guru of PetchBuri province. In WWII, LP Daeng created and presented his PhaYants (magic clothes) and Takruts to Soldiers and people. When the Japanese troops landed in PraChuabKiriKhan Province which borders with Petchburi, a small group of soldiers and patriotic people fought fearlessly. They were brave and it was said remained unharmed due to LP Daeng's amulets. LP Daeng's 1st batch medals, Takruts and other amulets worn by soldiers declared their great efficacy, particularly for safty and protection from danger. LP Daeng passed away in B.E.2517 at the age of 96 with 75 years of his monkhood...." - Thai amulet.com -
So, the said piece was made barely a few years before the Guru was passed away (B.E. 2513/2517). And if it is a genuine 1st batch Soomdej piece for MYR400+ - it challenges conventional wisdom or simply the Guru want someone to own his piece at a bargain. Further a number of names of "Big Icons" for collectible Buddhist amulets were mentioned. I have tried to link the image, funny part is, it says: "Copyright Thai-amulets.com - please DON'T copy our content....", That is quite funny after K.T post was made.
Hope this can raise a discussion and we learn something or the intelegence from everywhere. At WORST - What we may be discussing here could inspire amulets online traders to be more careful when dealing with description of products they are selling as we do read. It is a win win situation between consumers/collectors and the retailer.702. From : Y.K.T. (YappieNOSPAM@yyyoo.com)

That was the site which has created an ethical issue in this forum some time ago by "borrowing" a few leo's images here in mir for his "about us" section at thai-amulets.com. Leo has never gave him permission as I have asked:
http://www.thai-amulets.com/about_us.htm?PHPSESSID=dd428dfdf7bb466a1a11fa6f13f18876
I have not bought any amulets (not comfortable to buy online yet). But that site has section which is readable:

For uncle wong: that is exacly how i feel about the nowadays "Jathukam" madness. Jathukams are everywhere - on most of peoples' necks, on pictures on posters, on TV, newspapers. All temples are releasing them ... as far as the money go to the temple it is all right but it seems that much more money go to businessmans' wallets. They are really expensive. While you can rent a real LP Daeng's somdet for about 3000-4000B or LP Kasems 252* pieces for about the same price it is hard to believe that a new mold of Jathukam can be as much as 2000-10000B.
Worse, I've been told that a recent batch of "Jathukam" created in Nakhon Sri Tamarat's Wat Mahathat (a mold for free) caused such a madness (because it was for free so even the poor people coul afford it) that 2 old people were killed as the waiting crowd in front of the temple moved towards the outlet. Personally - this is sad ... it feels wrong ...704. From : Jan (jan_horinek@yahoo.com)

Hello brothers. It is always great to see this forum alive. Thank you for the Wat Paknam addition - very nice pictures and helpfull information. I have #6 myself together with the original piece of paper with instructions. If you'd like me to send it just tell me.
I also added a LP Daeng section to my website. There is quite a long article on His somdets 2513/14 and another one on His medals is to come soon as i managed to rent 2 pieces in Thailand.

-I live in Bangkok, working with foreign embassy, but I'm interested in and collected some amulets, takrut, phayant for years. I have some collections of amulets both old and new. The latest one I have different series of amulets engraved with Luang Pho Thet (on the front) and Avalokitesuan buddha-image (on the back, recently produced from ancient Wat in Surat Thani province, Southern Thailand. The model look like Jatukam - flat and round one, some of which are engraved with Luang Pho on the front and Rahu deity on the back. Any interested friends from Singapore please contact me - email: echaomai@yahoo.com. Tel 087-9167417
