Modern Classic SLRs Series : |

Hello.
I recently bought a Nikon FM2.
But I can't see the red dot even though I changed the battery,
twisted the lever and pressed the shutter. What's wrong?
Please answer my question...

I just traded my D50 in on a D60. This is fine EXCEPT that my
AF Nikkor 50mm 1.14D won't auto-focus on the D60.
What replacement lens do I need?
Thanks,

Hi, I bought a nikon FM on ebay and the shutter makes a loud ringing sound when it is released, do you know if this noise can be remedied to ?
I wanted to ask as well: does the data back has to be linked via the connecting cord for the red led to blink ? (my camera has a data-back, but no connecting cord, and the red led does not blink when I try the shutter, does it mean it is faulty?)
thanks in advance,

Hi Geoff:
It sounds like either your focusing screen is missing entirely, or you have a special purpose screen that is not suitable for general photography. Remove the lens and look in at the top of the mirror chamber: if what you see is a nearly opaque, frosted white surface, that is the focusing screen. If you see nothing but polished glass up there, the screen is missing. The screen in the FM2 is user-replaceable, and you should be able to find a replacement screen on eBay or perhaps at a local camera store.7. From : geoff (geoffhollow9@hotmail.com)

Hi Geoff:
I don't know. I know that some cameras allow that. It has always seemed to me to be a feature of dubious value: you would never know quite what speed you are selecting, and your shutter's tolerances not much tighter than 1/2 stop to begin with. And if you really think your film will show the difference, you can always select a half-stop position on the lens aperture ring.9. From : Geoff Li (gli007@aol.com)

Question about the NIKON FM----Does anyone know if it is true that by adjusting the shutter speed dial half-way between the click-stop settings you can get shutter speeds that are in between the labeled speeds? For example--Put the dial right beyween 1/60th and 125th will get you 1/90th sec.
I've read this SOMEWHERE and want to know if I am crazy or not.
I cannot find again where I read this.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi David:
I don't know if you can swap shutters between your 2 cameras, but I do have some notes on the procedure for disassembly and replacement of the shutter in an FM2 - you might be able to mix and match parts one way or another to get one good body out of your two casualties.
Email me if you'd like the sketches.
