Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. I have two Varionar Auto Zoom 70-150mm 1:3.8 Lenses. They are made to fit the Mamiya ZE T mount. I would like to convert one of them to fit my Nikon FM T mount. Does anyone know of a source of parts that will allow this, or is there a service somewhere that will do it for me?

Hi there, I've noticed that the FM series of cameras come with two different shutter guards- one is knurled, the other smooth. Does anybody know why? Is it an age thing, or is one 'version' of camera better than the other? Thanks, Mick

Hi, all. I'm seriously considering getting an FM3A for macro flower or insect photography. My main concern is the lack of mirror lock-up, as I've read that the mirror pre-fire (activated by self-timer) may not be good enough. I intend to use the camera with either a 90mm or 105mm macro lens. As far as possible, I do not want to use flash. Please advice, and many thanks in advance. :)

I am interested in buying a used FM2 or FM2n. Does anybody know when the serial numbers changed from the FM2 to the FM2n, and secondly, at what serial number did the FM2n shutter change from titanium to aluminum?

Can I use FM2-series focus screens (eg. the E2) on an FM3a? It appears to fit, appears to be physically similar, etc., but not clear why Nikon had to come out with the 3-series screens for the FM3a. If it is usable, is there any need for exposure compensation? Thanks ... great site, lots of GREAT information.

I want to get a bunch of digital cameras for my school newspaper. I really hear good things about about the D series. Would the D100 be ok for a newspaper application? Oh and where is a good place to buy them? Thanks Enz

Hi, I am a newbie, with basic SLR experience. I am decicing between a Nikon FE-10 and a Nikon FM-10. I will be glad if someone could guide me as to which will be a better buy. I understand that the FM-10 has manual shutter control, while the FE-10 has electronic shutter control. Which would better option and why ? Thanks, Ishan

After reading part of your FM3A instruction Manual on http://www.nikonlinks.com, I have one question about the FM3A. In the "Setting the Film Speed" section, you wrote the follwing words: "If you load non-DX-coded film with the film-speed index set to or if no film is loaded, the exposure-compensation indicator and the ready light alternately blink to remind you to set the the correct film speed according to the film used OR in the case of no film is inside the film compartment, both the exposure compensation and flash icon inside the viewfinder will blink." Does it say that the blinking occurs in any one of the following cases? 1. With the film-speed set to DX mode, an non-DX coded film is loaded or no films is in the camera body; 2. No matter whte the film-speed is set on FM3A, if no film is in the camera body. Because my newly bought FM3A seems not blinking when the film-speed is set to non-DX and no film is in the body. For my FM3A, only the case 1 does the blinking occur. If this is abnormal, I think I have a malfunction FM3A. :(Any answer will be greatly appreciated. :) Esther, Regards
