Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Does anybody encounter a cracked hot shoe base (which is made of plastic) on an FM2? Wondering if it can be replaced easily - without having to take it to a repair shop. Would appreciate if one can provide repair info & where to get the parts. Thanks

To Dagmar: If you want an aperture priority camera, there are the following: FE, FE2, FA, FG, and the new FM3A. FM and FM2 do not provide automatic exposure. FE10 and FM10 are probably not manufactured by Nikon, but by Cosina. Their reputation is not always beyond any discussion. Rgds. Hermann

To Dan: When the shutter curtain partially remains open when firing (provided it is not "B" for exposure time), it is a clear case for a customer's complaint. I hope you have arranged seller's liability. Repair of the shutter in a workshop authorized by Nikon is not cheap, prepare for $100 to 150. Rgds. Hermann

i recently purchased a used nikon camera without the instruction manual or any other information. so, as far as i know, i have a nikon fg camera with a tamron lens. the camera's serial number is 8887446. i would greatly appreciate any knowledge that could be lent to me on this matter. i really hope to find some sort of instruction guide or something so that i may properly use the camera. i have tried development a few times already, but i must be loading or shooting incorrectly becuase all of my pictures come out black. if anyone knows anything about this camera, please help! thanks.

Carlos, Nice to meet you here other than on A.net !! :-) Well, the "FM" in front of the serial number says it all -- you have a Nikon FM. Subsequent generations of the FM-series of cameras (FM2, FM3a) all have their model names etched on the front plate, but the first-generation FM has always been "nameless".Cheers.
