Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Hello, I have heard that FM3A's focusing screen is brighter than one comes with FM2N. Can anyone tell me that FM2N's focusing screen can be replaced with this brighter one? Thanks, Ken

Well, well.. I have been asking Nikon dealer in Bangkok to get me a cover for the motor drive coupling at the bottom section of my Nikon F3HP for the last eight months ! These guys really need some wake up calls, huh ? I think a quick solution is to go a used camera shop and offer the owner a few bucks removing one of these cap from his displayed units rather than waiting for these guys to react. By the way, I have both F3 and Nikon FM2n/T (but like yours, both do not have any sync caps on..). Great cameras.

I am a new visitor to this site but a regular at Leonard Foo's F3. But I started with a used FM2 n body back in 1992, my first camera and first love with photography. I have kept my Fm2 in superb care and although the shutter has a little misalignment caused by the previous owner it has worked marvelously with out a problem for many many years. It has given me the opportunity to learn photography tremendously.
But lately I wanted to find this original Nikon synch cap ( mine didn't have one) to at least cover the latter. Its a tiny plastic cap which is screw in type. I think NIkon have several sizes to fit different models and mine is specifically for FM2 n. I live here in Houston and have called the camera stores and repair shops and they all said they don't have it. Its frustrating because its such a simple accessory and even they don't stock them. THey suggested calling B and H and I did but still none. Finally Nikon USA that left me hanging all the time listening to their recordings.
To end it all, I can't find one. Well, I hope somebody out here have some extras to sell for a few bucks or have some enough to give away to somebody like me. WOuld appreciate very much toi anybody. Danny, my email is dwkwan@msn.com and I will send you my address.

Mr PATEL: This site is not selling any camera or lenses (excuse me, if I am wrong as I have been visiting here regularly for the last few years and has always been wondering why it is not..); however, it does has a section called the FREE TRADE ZONE to allow surfers to trade, ask or sell camera equipments on their own, it has grown to be very popular among users now, you can check here at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/ftz/index.php3 An Alternative is www.Ebay.com

Hans: "...Nikon does stated SB28 can be use with FM2n by using the A or M modes but how is it going to do the AF zoom..." No. The AF zoom will not zoom by itself and you will need to manually turn the zoom ring to change focal length. ".... How I do the flash knows when to zoom and when to use a wide flash? " Frankly, I have no experience with SB-28 and I am not too sure if it has manual control. But using general knowledge, just see the corresponding zoom coverage, if it stated at 35mm (at the ZOOM after focus) then move the zoom head of the flash to 35mm and so on. "....What flashlight should I get?...." That is much simpler, if you can live without a Nikon brand name, many third party flash such as Metz, Sunpak, Vivitar etc. are equally good companion flash units for your Nikon FM2 because other than the auto sync feature found in any of those original Nikon flash units, there is no advantage over third party flash at all (with the extra benefit that usually they sell much cheaper). I think the question is more confined to your request of a specific flash units that need to cover a 20mm's 92 degree picture angle and making the choices so limiting. Well, for Nikon flash Units, you can also check older non-AF models at: the beautifully done Nikon F3 website (click on the "Flash" and referred to the sub-links at the bottom: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/index.htm

Hi FM2n lovers, I have a question. What flash would you recomend if I need a flash with Auto sync (A mode), able to cover at lease 20mm len's range and repeating flash. I have a doubt about SB28, Nikon does said SB28 can be use with FM2n by using the A or M modes but how is it going to do the AF zoom, I do the flash knows when to zoom and when to use a wide flash? What flashlight should I get?

Han

Well, finally I have a reliable source to tell my local dealer that Nikon FM2n Millennium is not made of Titanium. I have check mr leofoo site of the FM2/T and I am always disagreed with the shop assiatant's conclusion where Titanium metal is used in the construction of the camera body. By the way, how much should a set of FM2n Millennium be selling ? Thank you, Mr Eric and the site maintainer.
