Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Dan: The instruction manual has always been there in the FM10 site (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm10/fm10manual/index.htm). It was based on a copy of the original manual as I am the one that sent leofoo with the scanned high res. photoshop files. I am wondering how could you possibly missed that link located at the main index page unless, of cause you are not that serious looking for it ! Anyway, among all manuals for the Nikons, Nikon FM/FE 10 user's manual are indeed a halfhearted effort by Nikon (well if you like, you can always spend US10-00 buy an original copy). In relation to your doubts on shutter speeds, I would suggest you go through and read ALL these pages at the link below rather than just focus on the element of "shutter speed": http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fototech/apershutter/index.htm2. Hello, I just purchased a used Nikon FM10. Everything is in the original box, except the owners manual. Does anyone know where I can write to, or something to get this? So far I've got most of it down to a science, but am still kind of lost on the shutter speeds. I'm very new to SLRs, and would like any advice I can get. Thanks in advance, Dan Tornillo3. Sebastian shaw: In relation to your DOF lever, there could be two possibilities, either from the lens section or the aperture stopped dfown lever inside your camera body. I had once happened with my 15 years old 20mm f/2.8 Nikkor where originally I thought it was the camera's stopped down lever that was causing the problem, but it was at the lens where the stopped down pin was mis=alligned. It was a easy fix, send in for to find out (or check it yourself by changing to a different lens to see if it still occurs, if it does, then it is the camera's stopped down lever) in either way, re-allignment should fix the problem.4. After doing a lot of reasearch on the internet i finally purchased a used FM in relatively good condition but with a few problems first of all the lightmeter gives out overexposed readings which is not such a big problem. secondly the DOF lever moves/flicks with every shot. cam somone tell me if the DOF thing affects the performance of the camera? i would really appreciate it.6. Kam: I am not sure if it will work, open the camera back, go to this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm2/index.htm at the center of the page, there is an illustration where you can see a tiny metal tab hiding in the railing of the camera, it says "...Off topic: The tiny metal tab under the serial number, hiding inside the film back rail is for frame counter reset. ...". The tab is for reseting the camera's frame counter to "0".use a pencil and see if it can help you to reset the counter normal.7. From : t.j. (tnumelin@yahoo.com)

Question: I recently purchased a black body FM, I notice that the prism housing does not seem to be symmetrical. Its especially noticeable when you compare the prism housing with the edge of the Nikon nameplate. At first I thought it was a defect but I have seen the same feature on other black body FM's. A friend has a chrome FM and his seems to be symmetrical. Anybody have any ideas regarding this phenomenon?8. From : Lars (LHHansen@zi.ku.dk)

Oliver - you will find some pictures from inside an MD-12 @ http://www.zi.ku.dk/personal/lhhansen/photo/repair/md12.htm My advice, however, is that you get the repair manual. It can be bought from www.craigcamera.com Good luck!9. From : Lars (lhhansen@zi.ku.dk)

Gus - It seems that the spring in the counter dial mechanism is somehow obstructed. You can take off the top plate to have a look. If you need assistance you could join the NikonRepair group (see URL above).10. Nikon FM2n Film Counter Problem: Hi, I got a problem in my Nikon FM2n: the film counter doesn't go back to "0" instead it just back to "6" or sometimes, no even move, although the back opened. And I'd like to ask that do you know what's the problem and how much for fixing it. Besides that, the camera works fine over all. Thanks for help, Gus
