Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Mike, your FM2n can use with 80-200mm AF Nikkor zoom with absolutely no problem at all. ALL Nikkor lenses provide a manual focus focusing ring and it works exactly like all manual focus lenses except you have to set the pin to MF instead of AF on the lens (avoid the G-series AF Nikkor lenses, as they have no aperture for you to set and thus, it makes no sense for your to buy any of those lenses if you are using a manual focus camera). I came into here via a link when I am searching for information on the Pentax LX, and it leads me to the new (and GREAT) FM3A review prepared by the author (a very knowledgeable man indeed). I am truly stunned, amazed and fascinated by the enormous amount of information relates to all my favorite classic SLR cameras featured in this distinctive malaysian website. It has kept me very busy every night since then and everyday, I am finding something new to read on. GOOD JOB !!!

I could use some help.I have a FM2 camera and I am thinking about buying a used Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 zoom. It seems like this lens only comes in auto-focus could this lens be used on my FM2 and if so is there any disadvantages. I also would like to add a teleconverter to it any info would be appreciated. Thanks for your time and hopefully your input, MIKE

I recently acquired a used FM2n that works great, but there's a mystery that neither the local Nikon dealer or Nikon repair shop could answer. Both said they had not seen it before... What's the meaning of the little label embedded in the black leatherette near the DOF button that looks like a script "L" or maybe a "G"? See above URL for a picture. Thanks in advance.

Could someone please let me know how I can find out what types of lenses will be compatable with my FM? I am trying to buy a lens on ebay and I don't want to make a mistake. Thanks. Dave

Jen - in order to meter with a full aperture you need an AI-coupled lens. See an explanation @ http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/lens2.htm

Topgun228 - I would get the FM3A. It has useful additional features and is still in production - hence it is probably supported repair-wise for longer. Best regards,

Great site. Will look over all of the info. Need some serious advice. Had an FM2 which was stolen. That aside. I am thinking about Fm2N or Fm3A. Looking @ B&H site and going under imported/grey

Fm2N $84 35mm SLR Manual Focus Camera Kit with Nikon 50mm f1.4 AIS Lens (Limited Edition) - Titanium Color (Value of Lens about $290)

Fm3A $499 Black - Body Only Seems like a $50 difference between Fm2N and Fm3A(less). Any comments or suggestions? Is one camera mechanically superior or more reliable? Fm3A has appeture-priority (?) mode. Does this camera require more maintenance due to the added electronics? Assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

Howdy, I have a FM3A and use an old MD-12 from my FE days. The MD-12 doesn't weigh much, but those 6 AA batteries make it feel like a brick. Can lithiums AAs--which are much lighter but have a higher initial voltage--be used safely in an old MD-12? Thanks & Aloha
