Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Hello and season greetings to all,
I'm hoping that someone can help me locate a Nikon leather camera case CF-9. I have tried and tried to no avail. I own an old one that has become tatered over the years and would like to replace it. I believe this case is unique in that it fits the fm series camera with the Md-11 or MD-12 motor drive attached and also allows for a large lens, about a 135mm.
Thanks so much for your help!

"Compatible" is only confined to whether the flash will activate the LED light inside the eyepiece when a dedicated Nikon flash is used. If you can live without that, any flash will be able to mount onto the FM series camera. HOWEVER, with the FM3A, since the camera is a hybrid camera, it is better to check the user's manual to confirm whether it provides other features (TTL). Technically, you can use any flash to work with lenses of varying focal length from wide to medium teles such as using faster film, however, flash with zoom head where it can adjust the intensity of light is more useful (such as the SB-16B etc.). The trick to resolve this issue is - control the flash to subject distance and make good use of type of film used, you can even use a weaker and older flash unit such as SB-15 for both FM3A and FM2n cameras.

Hi, what do you all know about flash units that are compatible with the FM3a/FM2N series? Either Nikon or other brands such as Metz or Sunpak and in particular models that would work with prime lenses from 20-50-105mm and ones that have enough coverage so that I can use hoods all the time, as we all know due to poor design this can be a problem, thanks.

I have been using this Nikon FM oldie of mine for the last 20 years or so and I think I should share some of my thought with some of you here. This camera is a very well made camera. For the last two decades, it has never been seriously giving me any problems at all, except I got trapped once without a a depleted batteries inside which was essential topower the camera metering during my second honeymoon holiday at a remote island at southern Philippines. Well, although downed without battery-powered metering but good news was - it can still allow me to take pictures except half of the exposed rolls processed later found to have different results DUE TO my poor photographic knowledge in shoot pictures without a metering guide. That incident has leaded me to think how dependent are we to modern camera technology such as camera's built-in metering aid inside a camera's viewfinder. I would assume most modern autofocus cameras have even more gadgets than my old faithful FM here and when you relate that to simpetask such as focusing, they can even focuses automatically for you - not to mention many extra auto-exposure control modes you can depend on to get good results. Sometimes, I was wondering does that actually help photographers OR degrading general users' standard in photography (peace !). Lastly, I have spent the last few days surfing this wonderfully prepared malaysian website and I am still continued to amaze by new findings each day, there is no doubt that it is a great Nikon web resources here. I am sure I am not the first and the last to say this - a big Thank you to whoever that has been making it possible.

Hi. I am looking to change from a Yashica FX3 to a Nikon. Any suggestions as to which camera I should go in for and the lenses which would suit me the best. I am presently using a 50mm lens and two zooms 28-70mm and 70-210mm. However, in my hobby of bird photography I find the 210mm inadequate.

Can someone also give me an idea of the prices that I should expect to pay.

Nitin
