Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

I received a Nikon FM(???) from my Father for christmas some years back. Since my point-and-shoot recently stopped working, I thought I'd dig it out. Now I'm curious how to tell exactly what model I have. I can't find any material on how to do so, but I thought someone here might be able to help. (I'm not a photography expert, so please explain what I'm looking for if you use a technical term).
It's a black body, without a hump on the right side. The serial number is FM 3330548. Does this mean it's a plain FM?3. From : Gen Holst (genholst@excite.co.uk)

Tom: Not a problem. Perhaps that is one single reason why Nikon cameras are so prized by many of us. As long as you have a lense that has a F-mount, it will fit into any of the Nikon MF bodies (as you said, except that you have to focus manually).4. From : tom (kaizen1@att.net)

I own a Nikon 8008s. I have Sigma lenss for AF lenses for this camera. I want to get an FM , FM2. or FM2n. Will the sigma lenses fit these cameras. I realize the AF won't work - not interested in that. Thanks Tom5. From : Ricardo (richardogonzal_99@hotmail.com)

Most Nikon bodies can achieve an exposure cycle of approx. 50,000 from the Nikon FM2 website where Nikon first introduced the Titanium shutter for FM2, we understand the targeted cycles has upgraded to approx. 100,000. This interprets almost closed to 36 x 2700 rolls ! As we know the subsequent update of the Titan honeycomb shutter has been reverted back to Aluminum Alloy shutter blades (where no one knows what will be the targeted exposure cycles), and when we used a conservative figure of 50,000 cycles yester-year durability standard, this should also interpret into approx 1300 x 36 rolls. So, if you take an average of one roll per week, theoretically, it shopuld last you 25 years ! I am not a professional photographer and I don't possibly think have to worry about how durable a Nikon FM3A be, right ? 25 years later, I could have had a digital camera already ... ha ha !6. Hi, Just want to get you comments about the FM3A. The way Nikon F series have performed the in last 20 years or so. Those NIkon still are alive and kicking. Do you think that FM3A will also perform as good and as long as its brothers?7. From : Robert Mears (rome48@earthlink.net)

I recently purchased a Nikon FM 10 and FM 2 at a flea market. Neither one had a users guide with them. I am wondering if someone out there could tell me where I might be able to obtain the users manuals for these two cameras. They are both in working condition, and would like to be able to put them to good use. I have owned a minolta slr for some time and they seen to work closely to what my minolta does. Thanks for the help.8. From : Nigel Wilmot (nbw@tesco.net)

I have recently bought a F100.I would like to know if I can use my Vivitar 285 flash unit with it. If so what setting should I put the F100 on. Would iI be right in thinking manual exposure mode and set the shutter at 250th? This is my first auto focus Nikon and I am finding it a little complex compared to my F2A and my FE. Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thank You9. From : Bob Owen (robertown1@aol.com)
