Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Well. This a 28 year old story. In 1974 I bought a F2S Nikon Camera, as I'm now, I was then a serious amateur protographer, very complained about quality. In 1982, I had to sell my F2s. In all this years Nikon was far away from me. A few weeks ago I bought a FM 10. After shooting all kind of film in the market and try shoots with all the possibilities of the Camera, I can say for true, this is a real Nikon. Yes, it feels diferent in the begining, but must important, the photos are real Nikon quality photos.
I'm very happy with my new Camera. A good friend of mine has a F3 Nikon Camera. We did same shoots, with same lens, same conditions, at the same time, last week. Photos are exactly the same...some of them, indeed very good photos...Nikon photos no doubt.

can non AI lenses be modified to fit up to the FM-10? Will the back ring come off, and can it be replaced by a ring compatible with the FM-10?

How to un-jam an FM2N: PART II
------------------------------
Yet again, my FM2N jammed, and being the quick fix cheap guy that I am I figured out how to reset the winding arm so I thought I'd share. Here is the situation:

You cock the winding arm mid-roll and the shutter button won't fire (it will go down half way to turn the meter on but won't take the picture).

Quick fix: what MAY have happenned is that the winding arm spring didn't recoil completely. First, remove the lens to see if the mirror is down and the shutter is ok. If so, look on the bottom of the camera. There is a circle with a slot head directly under the winding arm. With a coin, gently nudge this COUNTER CLOCKWISE until the slot is at 180 degrees (horizontal, or parallel to the film direction). Now the shutter button should work. This cleared up my jam.

Hope this helps someone!

MIR has a section featuring various power sources for Nikon equipment.
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/htmls/batteries.htm
But there is no indication on possible substitutes for obsolete power units such as Mercury cells. Is there any alternate solution to these ? Please post your suggestion(s) here at this MB for all to share.

I have an old Nikon FM and recently went to Jamaica on a family vacation. My rewind knob came off the camera when trying to rewind. I cannot get the film out. I am from Minnesota and would like to know where to send it so the film can be saved and repair the camera.
Thanks

Having used a Nikon FA since 1983 - and loving it ever since - I still craved an FM2N but with aperture priority and TTL flash. So the FM3A was a godsend and I bought one recently. It is an absolute beauty and I have started to love it as much as the old FA. I would love to see reviews and comments from others.
