Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Hi Rick (And All), I may have a project coming up for a company who sell fashion jewellery, accessories, handbags, etc. They have a new range of stock which they will need photographing, for both general marketing material and to put on their website. I have a Nikon FM2 which I could use for the project, but with the pictures destined to end up on a website, would it be more sensible to use a DSLR camera instead? I have access to a Nikon D50 which may be more suitable.
I realise the D50 will not have the same quality as the FM2, but it's unlikey any of the images will be printed any bigger than A4 (at a guess). Any thoughts? Thanks a lot, Toby.2. From : Curious (queston@fm.com)

Go to http://www.photo.net/ You can upload your pictures, request criticism of your work, and rate others. Plus there's tonnes of other material, forums, etc. Not as much Nikon stuff as this site though ;-)5. From : Tim (casey_hornet001@yahoo.com)

Great. I've just had a look at the gallery.... They all look really professional! I think I'll need to practise a bit more before I start uploading my photos....

Dear Rick, I just thought I'd let you know that I picked up my Nikkor Micro 55mm lens from Jessops yesterday. I went for the f2.8 lens in the end, the cost was around £140 (approx 244 USD). The lens was selling for cheaper on eBay but I wanted the peace of mind of a 12 month warranty etc. I took a few snaps of some flowers on a stall while I was out which I've taken in for processing, we'll see how they come out! By the way, are there any websites (or areas on this website) where you can upload pictures and let someone who knows what they're talking about (such as yourself) review them and let you know what you've done right and wrong? It would be good to get some more feedback on my pictures once in a while. Anyway, thanks again for all your help. Toby9. From : m r baloch (balochmr@yahoo.com)

Hi Toby: The 3.5 is likely to cost a bit less, which is attractive.... the f/2.8 has a "floating element" that gives a little better sharpness at longer distances (already excellent in the 3.5), so it's a superb lens for everyday use. The floating element mechanism does make the focusing system a bit more complex, which can lead to stiff operation of the focus ring if the lubricants get stiff. If you find a 2.8 that focuses easily, it's the best of the lot. as a general purpose lens the faster stop helps, but in very close work you will stop down quite a lot anyway for depth of field, so it's not important close in. rick :)=
