Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Hi I have recently bought a FM2n, and want to ask if anybody knows of any device, gizmo etc that can be used to give the camera a 'high-point' viewfinder. I wear glasses, so want to improve composition any way I can. I don't want a correction lens because this would mean I would have to take my glasses off then put them back on all the time. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks3. From : JWoods (centurywoods@yahoo.com)

Hello , your Nikon is NOT a mechanical Nikon FM. Instead, it is an electronic Nikon FE. You cna use the page: http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fe/index.htm for reading reference. You can also make use of the reference page to understand its main features and camera control: http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fe/map.htm the site has a step by step instruction of how to use the Nikon FE. NEXT, in relation to your "problem" - simple, just open the battery cover at its base plate, clean the contacts with a pencil eraser (and adjust the spring if necessary), change a new set of batteries, that is all, your camera should work by then. The "M90" is the mechanical back-up shutter speed for the FE which allows you to use the camera in case the batteries inside are depleted. It is a lovely camera to use and very durable, enjoy your time with your hardware !4. From : Alex (lotik@inbox.ru)

I am new to photography but have interest and passion for SLR photography. I am still undecided with which model of Nikon camera i start my passion. I am planning to go for FM 2A. But since i am very new to photography i am having second thought of spending large amount on that.

I just bought a MD-12 motor drive, used, for my FM2, that looked to be in excellent condition but it will not turn on. I have tried two new sets of batteries and cleaned the contact points but still no success. There is nothing in the manual to suggest a solution. Does anyone out there have an idea or explanation? I would appreciate hearing from you.... thanks... Tom7. From : R. Galarneau (rgalarneau26@yahoo.ca)

I just manipulated an FM3a in a store, and I guess the time has come to treat myself with a second body alongside my trusty FE2 :) I have tried 2 digitals, 2 AF, but always get back to my FE2. Here's my question, I looked at the ADR display in the FM3a and the aperture numbers were not centered, in fact I could see half of the adjacent number as well, this was with the new 45/2.8P lens. Has anyone else noticed this ? (not that it will stop me from getting one) Thank you all, Robert8. From : Brendan Cahoon (Laseroo@aol.com)

I have an FM and just aquired an MD-11 autowinder. Problem is I can't get it to work. My FM is one of the "upgraded" models with no shutter mode selector switch on the shutter release guard. Does this particular model only work with the MD-12, or can an MD-11 still work with the upgraded FM? It seems according to the information on this site that it cannot, but that page was a bit confusing, so I wasn't sure. Thanx9. From : Cherrie (pinkoctopus99@hotmail.com)

Recently came acrossed a seller disposing a Nikon SB-26 flash for USD180-00. Wondering why is it selling so expensive - it is almost the price of a good used Nikon FM2 body. Anyway, I was taught the FM2 need not have to use an Autofocus flash as it doesn't autofocus at all. Just wanted to express my personal opinion that I wish to see prices of Nikon products to be priced more realisticaly.10. I am a beginer in the world of photograhy and being a student, my budget is also very limited. So, I opted for FM-10 model. I have read all the things you have given in your site about FM-10 and I have a mixed feeling about this model. Kindly tell me whether a standard lens of Nikon Series E 50mm f/1.8s lens can be attached to the FM-10 camera body or not ? If yes, then please tell me about the results. Regards, Siddhartha
