Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. I am having a Nikon FM 10 alongwith Vivitar Flash. Now I intend to go a trip to Auli in India where in Winter the temp. normally keeps below -5 degree C. My question is how to maintain the Camera in such cold condition? I came to know that in cold condition, sometimes shutter get locked in some Camera, but I do not know about FM 10. Kindly let me know all this and what type of Film I should use. Matter urgent as I have to leave for trip on 20th December '04. Kindly reply per return. Thanks, Bye.

How do you replace the top plate on a Nikon FM. I removed the 5 screws, film advance lever, but the rewind lever on the oposite side doesnt allow the top to come up. What do I do?

Hermann, thank you much for the quick and accurate response. You are correct, the match needle continues to show the ambient light reading while the shutter releases at 1/250 sec. Nikon confirmed this, though the owners manual does not specifically address this. You have a terrific site here,I'll visit it regularly. Daveyarr

To Dave: It seems surprising that the FM3A is still metering with a flash mounted in A mode, but independent of its metering, it will fire at 1/250 s. The metering is useful for estimating the brightness of the background; by opening/closing the aperture, you can alter the brightness ratio between object and background (assuming the background not to be within the flash range).

Hello, I have an fm3a and sb23 speedlight. I keep the camera body in A mode. The meter indicator shows the blue line in the A position, but the meter indicator fluctuates according to scene brightness. My manual says the camera selects a flash sync of 1/250 sec, I expected to see the meter show 1/250. Does anyone know if this is correct? Thank you, daveyarr
