Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Hi Jennifer:
It sounds like your camera has jammed. In normal operation, when you press the shutter release the lens closes down, the mirror goes up, the shutter fires, the mirror comes down and the lens reopens. It sounds like it has stopped without completing the cycle, so that your lens is not fully open (you can probably see the partly closed diaphragm blades if you look in the front).
I am not familiar enough with the FM10 to have any more specific ideas, but I think it will require a repairman.2. From : dinesh puri (d24811@hotmail.com)

i do not have a comment but i myself have a problem.seeing the popularity of the digital medium, i am very much worried about the future of the conventional cameras. among the cameras that i own, nikon fe is the one for which i have a big array of accesories. i would very much like to use them,i am not sure if the digital cousins of this camera will be able to accept these. or has nikon company ever thought of the photograhy enthusiasts who have been so loyal to nikon?3. I recently inherited an FM2 and MD-12 and am having a bit of trouble working the MD-12. I put the batteries in, put the film in, and then hit the on switch and it doesnt turn on. after a few seconds it does and, even though it is in the single shot mode, it proceeds to take continuous shots, or at least advances the film. Why is it doing this? And how can I get it to stop? I want to use it at an airshow this weekend, but if i can;t get this to stop, im SOL.....please help!!

Aswin: Nikon FM or any Nikon SLR models does not has a specific strap such as "FM2-specific" But there are some which does (I remember the Nikon F2, F3 and F4 has one of that). Here is a very colorful (old selection) but I am not sure they still sell these lovely straps: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/accessories/misscel.htm9. The FM uses 2 A76 or 357 camera type batteries... very popular in the US. After that, it's as manual as you get... I still shoot mine daily.10.
