Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. That seems odd, with the N prefix and a serial number higher than my FM2N; I can't explain it, but maybe someone more well versed in Nikon's serial numbers can.
I have a current KEH catalogue that lists FM2's from $235 for excellent up to $379 for like-new condition (body only - add another $172 for a 50/1.4 AIS in EX+ condition).... roughly the same prices for FM2N in similar condition. Compared to many other 35mm SLRs, they seem to be holding their value pretty well.2. From : Steven Tessler (stevent.nk@redwood6.com)

I purchased my camera in March 1983 with a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens. It is a FM2; not an FM2n. I thought it's value had long passed. What might it be worth today (11/2010)? Both the body and lens are in superb condition.

Hi Will:
You have an FM2N. The original FM2 had a separate synch speed of 1/200; in the FM2N the synch speed was increased to 1/250 and the extra 1/200 speed deleted. Early FM2N's have the quilted shutter blades - including my own, which is serial number N7310347; in later examples the shutter blades are smooth.4. From : Will (photographs@nac.net)

Hello,
I have what a appears to be a Nikon FM2, but it does not have a Honeycomb shutter, and the serial number does not say FM2 on it. The serial number is N 8624320. Hope someone can help.
Thanks,

Hey everybody! I thought I might try asking for some advice is anyone on here might be able to help me. About a week ago, i was changing film in my FM2, quite normally. However, Now, for some reason it seems to be stuck in the rewind function. I've tried pulling back the button on the bottom and not to any difference. Unfortunately, now I can't use my camera until i figure out how to get it out of this rewind function. The wind/advance lever won't engage the film advancing mechanism, so unless there's a way to push, turn, or tweak something, I may have to pay for repairs. I hope someone out there can help me out! Many thanks for reading!

My FM is in great condition except that the shutter speed numbers in the viewfinder are not visible because the number shown is higher than the little indentation where it should be. I can just barely see the bottom of it. Is this something that can be repaired, in this otherwise pristine example?8. From : Mike Kong (kongpheihwa@yahoo.com)

Hi John:
The double-exposure lever should reset itself to single exposure as soon as you've recocked the shutter. What sort of advance trouble are you having?
