Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Alfred,

Your lens was assembled by Anam Precision Optical in South Korea, using original parts manufactured in Japan by Nikon. I gather this was supposedly a tax dodging ploy as the Lemix brand was aimed at the market in some specific areas of Asia. From the limited reports I have been able to unearth, optical performance does not seem to be wanting or ever been an issue.

Hi Michael:

The best advice that I have is to go to your local library and look in the photography section (it's around number 770)... look particularly for a book on photographic technique that was published in the 1970s. This was the high point for "real" manual focus 35mm SLR photography and there were a number of very good books on the subject in that period.

If you'd care to engage in a running question/answer/discussion in the meantime, feel free to email me...

Hi,

Recently I bought a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 Ai-S, but it was a NIKKOR lens with the mark of ANAM / LEMIX. Can anyone tell me if NIKKOR lenses produced by ANAM / LEMIX have the same optical quality of the NIKKOR originals? Actually, this 50mm lens also possesses ANAM registration MADE IN JAPAN, but I'm having doubts about their quality.

Thanks for the help!!
And sorry for ma english.

Hi Redfish:

I can't recommend anyone personally, but there is an excellent directory of repair services at http://www.acecam.com/srindex.html (I put it in the hyperlink box instead of my own URL). This is organized by location, so you can see who's in your area and call them up to discuss it.

I recently purchased a Nikon Nikkor Ai-S 18mm f/3.5. The lens needs internal glass cleaning. I also have a Nikon Nikkor 500mm f/8.0 that needs cleaning.

Where can I find/purchase a repair manual for one or both of the lenses? Is taking it apart by a mechanically inclined person feasible? Not Recommended to do so?

Are there any Nikon lens repair/cleaning shops in Texas that anyone knows of and recommends? One that is reasonable in service cost?

Thank you!

Hello,
I have an old Nikkor lens, RF Nikkor-Q 250mm f/4. I also have the tube so that it can be mounted on a F body. This lens is used and shows ware on the outside but the glass is excellent. I have searched extensively to find out what this lens might be worth. I am interested in selling it. Could someone approximate it's worth for me? Thanks for your time.

Hi Tanya:

Value is a difficult thing, much more so in film SLR cameras since digital has taken over. However, the Nikon F2 was the very top echelon of professional cameras through the 1970s, and the 55mm Micro Nikkor is a top quality macro lens that is still in some demand for use on digital cameras in addition to older film cameras. I would think it would be worth well over $80; but if you're selling it to a dealer who has to resell it at a profit, I can imagine that he might not want to offer much more than that.

I would suggest going to eBay and searching separately for Nikon F2 cameras and 55/3.5 Micro Nikkor lenses. Click on the "completed auctions" button on the left side of the screen, and you will see the prices of recent sales. Prices shown in red are items that failed to sell, so those prices were apparently set too high; prices shown in green are actual selling prices. Looking over several of these should enable you to fairly assess the value of your camera and decide whether you're better off taking a dealer's offer or listing it yourself on eBay.
