Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. This may be a bit OT but does anyone in the group have any experience with the Soligor 200mm f/2.8 and 135mm f/2 C/D lenses?
I'm a Nikon user and I have found these 2 lenses are fully the equal mechanically as well as optically of the Nikon versions at a fraction the cost. Are these freaks? Did Soligor produce a several of these like the Vivitar Series 1?
Other Soligors I have seen were nothing out of the ordinary for aftermarket lenses. What gives?2. From : Luigi D. Sandon (cp@sandon.it)

Craig: the 28-85/4 is an excellent lens, and it's my choice when I have to travel "light", or have no time to change lens. It's relatively small maximum aperture it's not a problem but in a few situations. Be aware it is a bit large, and takes 72mm filters.
The decision between two separate primes, or a zoom, depends on factors like space, weights, kind of photography, etc. For example, for pure portraits I prefer a prime, be it the 85mm or 135mm.3. From : Craig Zander (craig_zander@yahoo.com)

Dear Canon Lens Group, I'm starting to think that instead of getting two more lenses, that perhaps I should consider getting the Canon FD 28-85mm zoom lens. Its a rather expensive piece, and with only a 4.0 aperture max., it seems kinda slow. Does anyone know if this is a good lens, or should I just get the 28mm and 85mm lens separately? Thanks so much for anyone's input. Craig.4. From : Ken Durling (kdurling@comcast.net)

Spinal - If the fungus is that bad I'm afraid it's probably not worth it. When it gets bad enough it will eat away the coatings of the lens elements, and there's no way to fix that short of replacement. Sorry don't know about Series 1 repair manuals. Ken5. From : Spinal (binaryadmin@gmail.com)

Hello! I was going through my loft and pulling out some of my old camera equipment (including a canon F1!) and I found an old Vivitar series 1 lense; but the mold/fungus is crazy! So I got my mixture out (50:50 Amonia:Hydrogen Peroxide) and cleaned the outside - but can't fathom a way to get into the lense... Does anyone have a repair/service manual for this? Thanks!6. Marcelo: did you get close enough to the subject? When mounting an extension tube the lens will no longer focus as usual - it will only focus in a narrow range.9. From : Marcelo Alvarez (marhal2@hotmail.com)

Hello.......... I bought a 25 mm extension tube for my Olympus OM-2, trying to make photos of my car models. I attached the tube and put my 50mm 1:18 lens. But I see all blurred through the visor. Am I making anything wrong. I noted that playing with the aperture ring, it seems that focused the object but still blurred..........Thanks a lot.10. Owen - Any EF mount lens should work on the 350D, but the field of view will change by a factor of 1.6. So her 28-300 will be effectively a 44-480. Although this is a nice way to increase "focal length" (really only fov) you lose the wide angle capabilities, and put more of a premium on lens steadiness and the necessity of a tripod. Ken
