Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

Hi Greg: Yes, the T70 and AE-1 Program both use the FD mount.

Hi Mako:

I'm sure the FD 500 is an excellent lens, but you won't be able to use it on your 60D.

Howdy ... any opinion on the Canon 500 mm FD mount mirror lens?

I use to have both the Nikkor 500 mm F5.0 and F8.0 mirror lenses, and understand their limitations. I'm now looking for a small light weight Canon 500 mm mirror lens. I've bought an adapter and am going to test a friends Nikkor 500 mm F8.0 mirror on my Canon 60D.

This would be used for auto racing shots ... which I use to do professionally back in the 70's!

Thanks ... Mako/Makofoto

Hi Gail:

Your father is not remembering correctly, maybe he is recalling a different camera. The Nikon F you described was not manufactured until 1966-68 based on the serial number that you gave. You may see many cameras that are similar but not identical in appearance, because of the many interchangeable modular parts on the Nikon F. There were several different prisms, some had motor drives or accessory flash shoes or extended shutter release button attachments. I have a black Nikon F with F36 motor and non-meter prism with a serial number close to your father's: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/cameras1/nikonf.jpg

Hi Kevin:

New lenses are no longer being made in FD mount for manual focus Canon SLRs, but you can still find good ones easily. I would check eBay, or if you're in the United States, check out www.KEH.com.

Hi Paul:

No; manual focus lenses from Canon FT, FTb, F-1, A-1, AE-1, etc cannot be used on Canon EOS series digital or film cameras.

A few years ago I got in MINT condition a Nikon F3, serial 1380579 with 50 mm F 1:1.4 lens, serial 4849601, Nikon filter L1Bc, hood HS-9, lens cap, viewfinder antifog lens with eye cup, and leather case CF-20. The body has a white plastic protection (the size of the under part of body), that snaps on the tripod mount. But what intrigues me, is a black "cap" with the word NIKON, screwed on the shutter button. I never have seen another F3 camera with this cap or the body protector. Have this "extras" some meaning?

I have a Nikon S-mount 8.5 2.0 with the "Made In Occupied Japan" stamped in the upper side of the cam in the rear lens mount. I read the page on this site concerning these lenses and if I read it right, mine has a serial number higher than what the highest is said to be from what is known on this site. The serial number of the particular lens on hand is 2876XX. Any thoughts or suggestions on finding more info?
