Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Yes, Andy:

The lens you want is called a Micro-Nikkor. These were made in 50 and 55mm focal lengths (there are longer ones too, but they're more expensive), with maximum apertures of f/2.8 and f/3.5. The earliest and least expensive one is the 55/3.5 Non-AI version. Your camera requires the AI connection, but you might find a very good deal on a Non-AI lens that has been converted to AI to work on later cameras.

The 50-55mm Micro Nikkors focus to a 1:2 reproduction ratio (meaning the frame will be filled by a 2" x 3" subject). They also give very good results at longer distances and can be used in place of your normal lens if you don't need a faster speed.

Optical quality of these lenses is exceptionally good, in all versions; and luckily, although they are expensive lenses, many more of this type of lens are available in Nikon than in other brands, making them relatively less expensive on the used market.

I personally use a 55/3.5 AI-converted model, and it's really, really good.

Hi, I only recently became interested in photography so I have little knowledge or vocab. Does a lens exist for my Nikon FG that can focus up close on the small worlds of nature like, for example, a small patch of lichen? I'm thinking somewhere between 4" and 2' from the lens. Thanks.

I have a Pentax ZX-50. I am looking for a new zoom lens and would like your opinion on these. Tamron 28-200 Super II, Sigma 28-200 F 3.5- 5.6 DL Aspherical Hyperzoom and Vivitar Series I 28-210 F/4.2 6.5IF AF Zoom. I can get the Sigma for around $175.00, the other 2 around $240.00. I would welcome any help. Thanks.

Hi John:

The Canon T50 uses the Canon FD lens series, probably the most common and easy to find of all Canon lenses. You can probably find a normal lens easily for less than $50 on eBay or at a local shop's used equipment counter.

HELP:Series E 70~210 lens cleaning? Can someone tell me if I can do this? I have the front element group(2 lens I think) removed from the lens body(that was easy). There is 'fog' or fungas between the 2 lens. Can I get these apart for cleaning somehow?
I can't tell if the housing unscrews or what. Thanks.

I have a Canon FTb that I purchased new while in the Army in 1972. The light meter no longer works and I would like to have it repaired. Who do I contact?

Thanks
Dave
