Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

Hi Jeffrey: The f/1.2 is not a Micro Nikkor, and will not work well on an extension tube. The f/2.8 and f/3.5 Micro Nikkors are both excellent lenses; the f/2.8 is probably a bit better, but it may require a bit more maintenance to keep the focus working smoothly and easily as its focusing mechanism is more complex than that in the 3.5. If you don't mind the possibility of that bit of cost at some point, I'd go for the 2.8.

I have a Nikon M ring, the M1, and wish to pair it with a 55mm micro Nikkor lens for close up photography. My question is which 55mm lens can I use it with and which one is best, the 55mm 1.2, 2.8 or 3.5? Thanks, Jeffery

Mint Q45: Angenieux is a very, very good brand. Here I copy for you from the excellent Bob Monaghan's page: "Angenieux is a French ptical quality, despite Angenieux's status as a third party lens maker from a country (France) not generally associated with manufacturing 35mm SLR optics."
The BM's web address is this: http://medfmt.8k.com/third/cult.html#angenieux
where you can find more information, and prices, etc. Have a nice time! Jaume ;-)

Santosh: the focal length for macro depends strictly on what kind of subject your are going to take images of. Usually the 50mm is suitable for very static subjects because the photographer needs to come very close. But it allows for greater magnification when used with extension tubes or bellows - useful for very small subjects. 100 or 200 mm macro lenses are usually better suited for wildlife images because they allow for greater shooting distances. Beware that macro is a world on its own. Shooting at very short distances means problems in depth of field, lighting, camera shake, etc. Sometimes may be better to start with diopter or an extension tube, before going for a true macro lens.

I would like to find an MTF graph for the UV-Nikkor 105mm f/4.5 lens. Does anyone know of a source for this (free or pay)?

Are Angenieux zoom lenses (for Nikon) worth considering? Hello, Does anybody have an opinion about the Angenieux zoom lenses? Is it worth paying USD $200.00 for two lenses:
A:- 35-70 f/2.5-3.3 B: 70-210 f/3.5 Both lenses are in perfect condition. As per information on some websites, these seem to be quite expensive.... Please advise. Tks!!

How to lubricate Nikkor (manual) lens?
The apperture ring on my 50mm lens is kind of stuck. It is a little hard to turn and doesn't seem to "click" at the set apperture; I have to move it back and for to make sure it is properly set.
I believe the lens / apperture ring mechanism needs lubrication. If that is the case, does anybody have any advise on how to do this and what kind of lubricant to use? Or is sending it to a qualified technician the best alternative?

Tks a lot!
