Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. Could anyone tell me what the suggested list price of the 6mm f2.8 AIS fisheye Nikkor was at the time of it's last production and if possible what the street price was on this lens. Thanks, Ed

Hello All,What do you think of the older, 105mm 2.5 and a late model 24mm 2.0 ? Both are manual focus. Thanks, Russ

hi tim: it would get you a 100/2.4, but i don't imagine it would compare to the 100/2 prime lens and the 50/1.2 itself isn't going to be super cheap. i think you'd come closer to the mark with a less sought-after 100/2.0 aftermarket prime lens that would cost less and probably outperform the 50x2 combination. i had a soligor 100/2.0 for a few years which was just a little soft wide open but by f/4 it outperformed my 100/3.5 pen zuiko on my pen ft. i no longer have it because i decided i'd rather have the sharpness, compactness and close focus of the 100/2.8 zuiko than the speed of the soligor (its minimum focus was 5 feet). rick :)=

As we all know the 85,90 & 100 mm F2 Zuiko lenses are very sought after, if not impossible to get secondhand. With that in mind has anyone had any experience with taking a 50 or 55mm F1.2 and adding a 2x teleconverter? Is this a valid route to get a 100mm F2?

Ron: are you sure it doesn't take a 77mm filter? the outside diameter of the metal would be one or two mm larger than the filter thread. it's hard for me to imagine a canon fd lens that can't accept a standard filter size. rick :)=

yes, larry, 110 sounds like a good general idea of the equivalent focal length of the 180 on the mamiya. the different format shape of course makes it impossible to state an exact equivalent. rick :)=

Larry, I'm not familiar with your Mamiya C330, what format is it? I have a conversion chart arround here somewhere to determine the area of coverage for different formats as compared to 35mm. I'll take a look for it and let you know what I have. TomR.

I recently purchased a used Mamiya C330. It came with a 180mm lense.I am a total newbie with medium format so I would like to know what is its equivalent to 35mm format. I believe the 180 to be equivalent to a 110. Does that sound about right? Many thanks!

I have a Canon FD 300mm f4 SSC lens that I would liks to put a UV protective filter on the front lens. I am having a problem finding a filter to fit. The front diameter measures approx. 78/79mm. The standard sizes of filters that come close are the 77mm and 82mm. However, the 77mm is to small and the 82mm is to large. The front of the lens is threaded for a filter. Any suggestions? Thanks.
