Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Folks, I have a Canon FD 500mm mirror lens. The foam in the lens case is beginning to rot and I need to replace it. Any idea where I can get similar replacement foam? None of the local hobby shops have anything remotely similar. Thanks.

Issue with OM-Mount RMC Tokina 80-200 f4

Greetings, I picked up a nice bundle with an almost perfect Oly OM-1, Zuiko 50/1.4, Tokina EL 28/2.8, an RMC Tokina 80-200 f4, a number of filters, camera case and an Oly everready with the tripod cutout. Nice stuff.

The only problem with it all is the aperture blades on the Tokina 80-200 f4 do not work. I set to f22 press the DoF preview and blades do not close, do same with the aperture lever on the mount and still no close.

Might this be fixable by me? I do not know my way around a lens, but am mechanically inclinded and do have the patience/equipment for small work.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Matthew

I've been reading MIR for several years now. Unfortunately due to various computer problems (crashes, dead hard drives, etc) I've lost a lot bookmarks. I've been looking for months for the MIR sites where various lenses have been bench tested. I'll be damned if I can find them.
Help Please! JD

On my lens it reads "Nikko" the serial number starts 280xxx
Was this a typo on the lens or is it some sort of prototype?

Thanks

Hi David:

I agree, though it's not for everybody; the URL link above shows some of the lenses that I use with my Canon XTi. I don't have as many options available to me as you do with your Olympus, but I have adapters for Nikon, OM, Pentax M42, Pentax K, Zenit M39, and Pentacon Six and Kalimar 660 medium format lenses. The only real Canon lenses that I have are the 10-22 wide angle (no manual focus substitutes for that I'm afraid), the 18-55 that came with the camera, a 50/1.8 and a cheap 80-200 zoom off of a film Rebel.

Olympus E500 with Nikon adapter. Ive recently switched to Nikkor manual focus lenses to try and get more out of my camera and save some bucks over the insanely expensive Olympus lenses (nothing wrong with the Zuiko OMs), but nothing has come close to the quality of my 55mm F2.8 Micro or 50mm f1.4 macro. Feels like a new camera. Definitely is your using a digital SLR and prefer manual focus and the sharpest glass for pennies on the dollar, check out the adapter rings. Metering still works just fine and the warnings just seem like bunk.

Hello everybody! I'm hopeing that someone in the world has either a 39mm UV filter for a Nikkor 15mm f 3.5 lens or a complete set. I've used it without knowing it originally came with a set of 4 but I never received them or knew they were available. It's a great lens, I used it professionally for over 25 years with no problems. It's a great lens and I want to sell it but want to offer it with the filter set or at least the UV. Can anybody out there help me. I did find a red one for $10 but really need the UV..Thanks, Walter

Hi,

I just bought a FM2n used off eBay, but noticed that the speeds listed on the external shutter speed dial, and internally in the viewfinder, do not match with the actual shutter speed at release.

When set to B, the shutter seems to be firing a 1 sec. When set to 1/4000, the shutter remains open until I release the button.

If I try to turn the shutter selector past B, internally in the viewfinder, it says a speed of "x200", and the shutter seems to be firing at about 1 sec.

The light meter seems to be reading the speed dial correctly - it shuts off when set to "B".

Is there anyway to fix this?

Hi Charles:

For close-up work with bellows you have no problem.

There are 2 types of FD/EOS adapter: one has no glass element in it, it gives good quality but you cannot focus to infinity; and the other has a negative glass element added which makes infinity focus possible but degrades image quality and magnifies the image.

For close-up work, get the adapter without the glass element. You can attach either an FD or FL bellows to this adapter, and you can attach either an FD or FL lens to the bellows. The only difference between FD and FL mounts is the meter coupling for full-aperture metering in the FD. On the EOS adapter, you do not have full-aperture metering in any case so this does not matter.
