Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Geoff, you're goijng to have a hard time finding lenses for your Canon EX-EE. I think they went from 35-100mm, but there may have been more. This was the only model that used this lens mount, and there were no third-party aftermarket lenses made for it.

Mark, I can only offer a subjective opinion: I'd look for a Canon FD lens in the later, bayonet-style series. I can't guarantee it would be sharper than a good, modern zoom though.

Looking for a zoom lens between the 28 - 70mm range for my A-1. Should I go with an original Canon FD lens, or should I get a newer lens, such as a Tokina? Which would be superior in terms of optics (sharpness, contrast)?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi! I was reading the section about the Nikon FE2 and something caught my attention. Is the FE2 not compatible with Nikkor Manual lenses? However, they are compatible with the newer AF lenses - correct? I have a fully manual lens and was wondering if it can be used with a FE2. Thanks in advance for your assistance! : Clement

George Podgaiz - You need two items, both of which can be found on eBay. Canon Macro Hood - holds reversed lens aperture fully open for focusing. Auction closes 11/26 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=801823775
Canon manual diaphragm adapter - allows you to set reversed lens to any aperture. Auction closed now, but you should find more available if you look for several weeks.

Ryan, Not sure if I understood your question, but I'm guessing that the 70-300mm lens has a max f/stop of 4 or 4.5. If you're used to using a faster lens, like a 50mm f/1.8, your viewfinder will be noticably darker at full aperture. If I didn't understand, provide some more info and someone here should be able to help. How are your exposures? TomR.

George, You can take a rear lens cap and cut off the flat part, this will allow you to mount the lens in reverse, and by mounting the rear lens cap, change the F stop as desired. David

At the camera shop they said there is an especial adaptor that when in the lens it help to by pass the f stop lock,.Very rare accesory now,and almost impossible to find. There is any solution for this?.

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a Hoya 400/5.6 that has an fd mount. The price is 135 euros/dollars. Is it worth it? It's in a shop 600 km north from me so I can't test it. I have noticed that not many have seen or used this lens but I thought to try asking here. Thanks, Paula
