Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

I have a Nikkor 55mm 1:1.2 N-type (late pre AI) which has been AID by Nikon. I notice however that I cannot 'click' to diaphragm 16: the aperture ring stops right in front of the click. On the other hand the ring goes a little bit beyond the 1.2 click: as if the aperture ring has slightly shifted to the bigger apertures. As apertures are gradual, it is not as such a problem, I consider it more as a 'beauty' mistake. Would it be possible however to solve this problem easily by unscrewing the 5 +-screws at the rear and move the ring? (The screws seem to be very tight.)

Dear Mr. Rick OLESON:- I owned Om2. Q: the 200mm 1:4 telephoto with the Zuiko Auto Tele-Converter 2X-A makes it too dim. Can I use the 1.4X (original)? But is that compatible ?

Re: are Leica and the likes of Zeiss lenses justify the high premium over the Japanese ? I bought a digital compact (LEICA) C-Lux 2 with a DC VARIO-ELMARIT f/2.8-5.6/4.6-16.4 mm ASPH. Everthing sounds pretty good, but not the range of quality I would expect the extra premium paid over other equivalent. Funny, but had learn a lesson. ...

For the gentleman from Macau who asked for the "5200mm" lens, I found this at the FD lens section, may be this is what you are asking for (not sure), http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/reflex8002000/cat.htm

I read the few earlier posts in relation to off brands such as Soligor, Vivitar, Halimex, Quantaray etc... many of these manufacturers (or brand creator) had not officially addressed their origin. Should ask Mr. Leo to talk to them since he is in the web business huh ? haha ... by the way, had found another extension to the Canon cameras section (used to have one A1, stolen and changed to a Nikon) - this site is very very good !

Dear rick. Thanks I will give this a try. Also found a small setting to 1/4 output, but I like your idea of a soft light (realy it is what I want), cheap but should be effective. But I guess since it is not a TTL, some exposure errors have to be taken into consideration. You can illustrate very well, GOOD and THANK !

Hi Jimmie:

You might try this trick with your flash (click on the URL link). The card reflects only a fraction of the light from your flash toward the subject, the rest bounces off the ceiling to lighten shadows. It's not perfect, but it may give you acceptable results without having to get a new flash. Your biggest remaining problem is likely to come from the fact that your flash's sensor is well above the lens and likely to be looking into the distance past your subject.

Hi.. good forum ! A quick question for the Gurus here: I do know there are a few bubble flash for close-up. I have a 50mm as well as 85mm (Nikon), what will be the best portable flash to cover the angle for close-up (added with extension sets0 and yet can reduce the light - most of my macro turn wash out in white and I can't control the flash gun. I have a Vivitar 383. Are they compatible ?

Ritz huh ? no wonder their site filled with so many ads. Actually, years ago, I thought the other "ADORAMA" store was pushing very hard for the QUANTARAY lenses as well as other accessories (ESP the flash units as well as MACRO accessories. For accessories, I don't really mind. as for the lenses, I only used their prime. Not bad, not bad.. The ads portion of the shutterbugs magazine had many of the full selection for that brand. But seldom mention now. So, I guess the trade name has been "bought" by Ritz then .. (just guess). This is a good site and Rick, you have a very informative site too on oldies.
