Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. I have an old OM-4 that's not in good working order anymore. But I also have some incredibly nice Zuiko lenses. These include the 24mm f2, 35mm shift, 90mm f2 macro and the 180mm f2.8. However, due to my work (architecture) I feel that I have to make a switch to a digital SLR because of the interweaving do between all sorts of graphic software, cad, etc.

Is it worth my while to keep my lenses and use an adapter for an Olympus digital SLR? Or should I part with my lenses and get a fully digital system. Will I lose too much quality from my present lenses to make it worth while keeping/using them? If so, I'm all for it. But if not, I know my particular lenses are fairly hard to come by and maybe there's someonw out there looking for some and will make better use of them.

I would be willing to let them go for somewhere between what a camera shop would offer for them, and what they in turn would sell it for.

Any suggestions on which fork in the road I should consider?

I had read and referred the relevant pages (but missed out on the 24/1.2). I am quite pleased with the action taken and explanation given. I guess It is okay to link as long as the original intention or purpose was being addressed CLEARLY to quote to viewer that it was a potentially viable product but didn't materialized. I guess Robert and Luigi was opposing simply because they don't want the excellent content herein to be "disturbed". Come to think of it - There were many items in the Nikon pictorial history which were NOT even presented in Nikon official site but the products were actually being released to the market in relatively very very small quantity to even qualified as a commercial produce. Leo had included them in simply because they served as info based articles but doesn't suggest they are readily available to public. Example:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/htmls/index.htm#2prototypes
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/variations/f3limited/index.htm
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/variations/f3limited/index.htm
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/f2/variants/f2gold/index.htm

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/olympusom1n2/OM2nGoldMeinhardSchmitt/index.htm
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/variants/index.htm

The F3/T first 300 was not mentioned and the Nikon FM gold has only being produced ONE unit only. These probably are camera bodies while lenses usually have a more restricted number in variations. This is one example:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/olympusom1n2/shared/zuiko/Sinaron-OM/index.htm

In relation to Marco's article on the 24/f1.2 , I guess it was a perception was based on info gathered for such a possible model and did a visualization. That is all. But may be I might agree with the rest of the crew here to avoid putting it in the "official pages" here so as to retain the originality of the FD content. Personally, Marco site does has some interesting articles. Peace.

Thank you for the quick answer; anyway, to avoid others qui pro quo in the future, I added under the fake pic an english brief text that clearly explains the question to the R.O.W. users; to show that the 24/1,2 was not a child of my fantasy, I also posted all the datas about it, cut and paste straight from the original Momiyama' patent; at the matter of facts, the project was advanced enough to produce the lens, but, trying to guess, I think that the back element should have been a shade too sized fot the FD bayonet...

You're right about fakes, and I wrote several articles about unknown lens projects and prototypes without trying again, but when I first discovered the 24/1,2 data I was so amazed that - owning a mint 24/1,4 SSC - I couldn't wishstand the temptation to disguise it's pics.. :-))

Greetings, Marco

As someone who also commented on the fake 24mm/f1.2, I will add this to my original post.

The only items that should be listed on a site such as this are pieces of equipment that reached full production and were available to ordinary consumers or professional users.

Projects, no matter how far advanced have no place in a reference work such as this. The internet and literature are full of so called facts that have been repeated without checking - this tends to happen if the original source has some standing, or the author well known.

Canon is not unique in developing ranges of lenses on paper or computer. All photographic equipment manufacturers have done this for years - sound company policy, however there are many other that will need to be determined before a particular piece of equipment will be put into production.

The production of fake images does nothing to enhance the specification of the projected lens, so why produce it? I seriously question the value of listing projects that did not reach production, without also giving the reasons why production was not commenced. At least if ALL the facts were given, you would be able to work out the company rational at that point in their history. However I personally do not believe that such information has a place on a site such as this.

I have about 2000 cameras and lenses in stock at my small shop, including many FL lenses. I just aquired 2 FL lenses a 400mm,800mm, both fit into a canon focusing mount. They are in ex+ cond. clean glass, perfect cosmetics, and heavy. I haven't seen this type of lens combination before, although some info is available in McBrooms camera guide, but no values. Could someone provide any additional info on these two lenses, current value maybe, They are definitly collectable condition!

Marco, I was one of those who asked to remove the image because a fake one mixed with real ones could become too much "real" due to being published on a web site. especially on one that got an excellent reputation among Canon FD users.
Because not many around the world can read Italian they wouldn't be able to undertand fully the real nature of that image, and the excellent article that accompanies it.
Probably a separate section dedicated to the lenses that could have been but were never produced could be interesting - although I would not go that far to create a mock-up of the lens.
Nothing wrong happened, of course, that's a discussion forum and we just discussed about it ;)

About the Canon FD 24mm f/1,2, it was not produced but the project of the lens was complete and included between the options in the original Momiyama project, with all glass specs, radii, spaces, quotes and so on.

Just to be sharp, I didn't ask to link the article, and the first time I was told about I proptly explained that the picture itself was a fake, as anyway well explained in the text.

In a nutshell: the project of the 24/1,2 exixts and it's developed at the same level of the f/1,4 production version; the picture itself is a fake to bring the suggestions of such an incredible lens; all about that is explained in the text; when I understood that the page could have been linked, I mailed Leo explaining about the misunderstanding and - as I read here - he hurried up to erase the link.

So, nothing wrong under our skies, uh?

with my bests, Marco Cavina

Bad idea. I used to try once with my MF 50mm. It ended up with few extra screws and don't know where it came out from. Sent back to a service centre later. It may needs other delicate tools for such purpsoe as well, but if you insist - prepare for the worst scenario and some $$$ to get it back in shape. Good luck.

Q: How difficult is to open the lens to do a fix ? Two of my lenses stucked. One is a cheap halimax which I want to try it out, the next is a Canon zoom. Anyone had tried ?

Stuart: the EOS-FD convert was an interim solution to use some expensive telephotos on the new EOS bodies only, it was designed for pro photographers and IIRC was not available in the usual retail channel, but only via Canon Professional Service.
It was never meant as a way to use any FD lens on the EOS bodies.
