Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. TO Gerry: To my knowledge, Canon only mades three types of rear caps for its manual focus lenses, the FL and FD versions. The first two were made for both the FL and the older FD lenses which utilized the chrome-ring breech lock mounts. When the New FD lenses were introduced, they used the third (and final) version of rear lens caps. All three versions can be used on any FL or old and new-type of FD lenses. FOR OSCAR LING: Most telephoto lenses have a provision to focus past infinity - some lenses' when focus on infinity, the index is way beyond the index while others can focus past infinity (and still beyond the index mark on the focusing ring). This is normal. And some wide-angle or zoom lenses does, too. FOR RICHARD EVANS: You have to use three different types of hoods for your lenses, including the filters although the 67mm filter-type can be used on all three provided that you can find a step-up ring to fit the other two diameters of 52mm and 62mm sizes. Vignetting will occur if you try to use one hood or smaller diameter filter (even with a step-up ring) on multiple lenses having different mounting sizes. FOR M SMILJANIC: See answer for Oscar Ling and there's nothing wrong with your 24mm lens.2. From : Gerry (veritas@aloha.com)

The question concern rear lens caps for Canon FD lenses. How many different varieties of caps were made and what fits what! Will the caps with arrows fit on old breech lock silver lenses? Do some caps have to be released by pressing the new FD release button?3. From : Oscar Ling (cylin1@sytudent.monash.edu.au)

I have a Vivitar Ser 1 90mm Macro, 28-90mm and 70-210mm on my three Canon A1's. I need to fit them with lens hoods and need help with the proper type. Do I get any that fits the lens, i.e. 52, 62 and 67mm respectively, or is there a certain type that vivitar made for these lens? Should I get metal rather then rubber. Assume they go on over whatever filter I have? Any help would be greatly appreciate!5. From : Arno Schiebler (mikochan@t-online.de)

To R. Prasanna: There were two accesoires from Canon to mount a FD-Lens to an EOS-body. First the Macro Lens Mount Converter FD/EOS which does not allow the lens to be focussed on infinity and also has no signal or aperture connecting. Basicly it is a ring with EOS mount on one side and FD mount on the other. You cannot focus on infinity because the lens is moved away from the body. Second there was an adapter with build in optics that allowed the FD-lens to be set on infinity and that worked like a converter by times 1.26. I have never seen that one in any publication and it was only given to some professionals and not available to the public. But why buying FD-lenses for an AF model??? Regards, Arno.6. If somebody has PENTAX-FA 24mm F.2 AL IF lens I would appreciate one information:Is it normal that the focusing ring (on manual focus, of course)doesn`t stop at INFINITY or 0,3m (minimum foc. distance) and moves beyond these points. The lens internal focusing stops, but the ring continues to rotate...It`s the second hand lens and that`s why I`m not sure about it.I intend to use this lens only manualy because I have only LX bodies, and therefore this information is very important for me. Thank You!7. From : R.Prasanna (wprrp@hotmail.com)

HI, I have a Canon EOS Rebel XS Camera. I am planning to buy some used Canon FD Lenses. I know that you need a FD to EOS Adapter to use a FD lens on a EOS camera. Question is - Can any FD lens be used on my EOS Camera or are there particular FD lenses that can be used on the EOS? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. Thanx.8. Hi, I am a novice -wannbe- photographer. I have an EM series Nikon. At the present I have (and am satisfied with) 28-80 mm, 1:3.5 - 5.6 Macro sigma zoom lense. What I would like to have is a lense with a wide range and a higher zoom field. I am also interested in continueiing education with lenses.

|||| 24x36" enlargement |||| Yesterday, I had the pleasure to view some 24x36" enlargements taken my a friend of mine. The pictures were taken with the 80-200f2.8 AFS or the 28-70f2.8 AFS lens using Fuji superia 200 print film. The colour saturation and details are stunning when viewed at a distance of about 5 feet. Very contrasty prints all, and in fact I find one of the landcape scene taken in California too contrasty for my liking. The grain of the film is quite apparent when viewed at close diatance but not objectionable. He enlarged the print to this size just to see how well the optics of the lens are. Hmmm, when you have a good lens, you are not doing justics by looking at the 4x6 prints :-))) And who needs medium format ??
