Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Hi Angel:
The Minolta product line was taken over by Sony. The current Sony digital SLRs should be able to use your Maxxum lenses.2. From : Angel (privatemail@nospammingpls.com)

Hello. Lovely forum. I had this Minolta AF9000 for many years (bulky but took lovely pictures). It is a film camera. Question: I want to change or update to a AF Digital, but I had just found Minolta changed the name and couldn't find a replacement or upgrade model. What are the choices I have ? Can my previous autofocus zoom lenses (to be specific, the camera given to me has a 50mm and a telephoto zoom lens) be still use on the new digital if it has any appropriate model ?3. From : Luigi D. Jane: the Canon FT uses lenses with the Canon FL mount. Any FT, and many other Canon models, can use lenses with that mount.4. From : Jane (Jane.McPhail@yahoo.com)

Hello. I really need your help. My father has requested that I find him another Canon FT (1960 series-I believe) series camera (the one we have is broken). He already has the lenses for the camera (which is why he would like to have the same camera). My only problem is that I do not know what the number on the top of the camera is, 746217. Do I need to find a camera that has this exact same number, or will any Canon FT be compatible with the current lenses? I would appreciate any advice!5. From : JWoods (centurywoods@yahoo.com)

Friend told me it is not advisable to use the AF-S Nikon lens onto my F801s (N8008s). Any truth ? I am looking for an original 24-120mm AFS zoom lens as featured here http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/AFNikkor/AF24120mm/index1.htm
by the way, here is a fantastic site ! congrat !7. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Michael:
I'm speculating here, but my guess is that the Zykkor Ultra Wide Macro lens has a fine pitch male screw thread at the back end, about 52mm in diameter. This may be a standard 52mm filter thread, in which case it would screw right into the front of a late "bayonet style" Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens (if you have the earlier style 50mm lens with the chrome locking ring at the rear, that has a larger thread so an adapter would be required to make them fit together). There is another type of thread sometimes used on this sort of lens, called Series 7 ... it is also about 52mm in diameter but slightly coarser pitch and it won't fit directly onto a lens filter thread. In this case an adapter ring is required. In either case, though, this is not a complete lens, it is made to attach to the front of a regular lens to give it a wider field of view. Lenses like this are fun, I have one myself (with a different brand name); but don't expect this to deliver the kind of sharpmess that you get with your other lenses.
If my guess is totally wrong and your Ultra Wide Macro lens has some sort of bayonet mount on the back, let me know and I'll make up a new story.....

Hi Raymond:
I'm not a Pentax DSLR user, but my understanding is that all Pentax bayonet lenses can be used on a Pentax DSLR. I think that both the auto diaphragm system and the meter will work, at least in basic functions. There may be exceptions, though, or I might be slightly optimistic. The bayonet, in any case, is compatible.10.
