Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. Florian - A Canon BT-52 looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1261686483 This auction is over so the picture may not be posted much longer. This hood is a black plastic round cylinder that bayonets on instantly to the Canon FD lens. The bayonet flanges are outside of the filter threads. The hood is marked "BT-52" (T is for 85-100mm Telephoto)in small white letters on the outside, near the end where the hood attaches to the lens. A BS-52 (S is for Standard) is for the FD 50mm normal lens. BW-52A (W is for wide angle, A is moderate wide angle) is for Canon FD 35mm. These latter two hoods are progressively shorter, but still round cylinders.

Hello,

could someone tell me, what the original Canon lens hoods look like? For example the BT-52? Is there a Canon logo on it? I just ask, because I got two (a 35mm and a 85mm) Canon FD lenses with rubber hoods to screw into the 52mm filter screw thread. Or are the original hoods to screw from the outside (not into the filter thread)? (I want to resell the two lenses and don't know if I can tout them as original hoods or not.

Many thanks in advance for any help or information :-)
Florian

I am after a Canon FD 500mm Telephoto lens. Any suggestions where I may be able to pick one up and what price I can expect to pay for one?

Many thanks in advance.

Hello!!

I discovered to my dismay some 'stains' in the elements of my favourite lens. Under closer examination, the stains seems like fungus growth. My question is, will keeping it in the dry cabinet with low humidity level ( say under 45%) STOP the fungus growth?? Thanks you for your attention!!

Hello,

I use a 70-210mm f/4 FD Lens for nature and wildlife. However, the pictures i have been getting back have horrible light fall-off at the corners (especially when the lens is used at 210mm, wide open). I do not use a lenshood, and the optics have recently been cleaned. Is there any way I can prevent this? I am very frustrated and disappointed with this lens, because I expected it to give better performance than what I am seeing.

Also, does anyone know if the 80-200mm f/4 FD (two-touch) is better (optically) than the 70-210mm f/4?

Can anyone please help? Its very urgent! Thank you so much!

Joseph

To Elvin,
You can either send your lens to Nikon Malaysia in KL or Nikon Singapore in Singapore. You can get the address of both from the www.nikon.com website. Singapore might cost slightly higher, but you save your time and cost travelling to KL. Although I have no experience with both, but I heard their service is first class, and you will not need to worry your lens being spoilt.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 880 and love it. Today is my 50th birthday and as a gift from my husband. I would like to purchase a lense that will bring my subjects closer to me from a distance of say across a large yard. Is there a lense like this that maybe has wide angle properties as well? If there is, what is the exact name of this lense/lenses and where can I purchase one.

I have a Canon Brand 500MM FD Reflex (Mirror) lens and it uses
the 34MM Drop-In filters. According to Canon, they made several
additional filters.

These same filters are also used on some of the Canon brand
FD 300MM and FD 400MM lenses.

I'm interested in the:

UV-1x
ND-4x
and a "Holder" where you can use Gelatin filters.

If anyone has any of these or knows where they can be located,
please e-mail me or post a reply message.

Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how much is it to send in a lense for general cleaning and servicing. Can anyone recommend a service centre?? I live in Johor, Malaysia and have a Nikkor 105mm/2.5 and a 105mm/4 Micro that I would like to have cleaned up and serviced. I wouldn't mind travelling up to KL or over to S'pore to have it done. Thanks.
