Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. hi, Ive been given a Canon T80 with a canon AC 35-70mm lens the auto focus doesnt work. Is it a bin job for:
1) The lens 2) The camera & 3) could it be something I could sort myself. Im assuming that to get someone to look at it would cost more than the value of the unit. Many thanks2. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Leonard: I'm not really clear on your problem, maybe if you could email me a photo of it I might get a better idea of what's the matter. Is the lens hitting the part of the prism cover where the Mamiya nameplate extends forward? If so, maybe this particular lens just can't be used on this camera. I have some cameras whose prism housings stick out forward of the lens mounts, that cannot use certain lenses even though they are the correct mount. If this appears to be your problem, you might try either a smaller diameter lens on this camera, or a different body (such as a Pentax) where nothing extends forward of the lens mount.
No lens will focus to infinity if it is not screwed all the way on. This is not a need for adjustment of the camera, it is a need for the lens to be properly mounted.
Adjusting something on the lens to make it appear to be fully mounted when it is not actually in the correct mounted position will not solve your problem.... if you manage to find a way to do this (which seems doubtful anyway) you will still not be able to focus the lens correctly.3. Hello: I just purchased a used camera from eBay (yea I know) it is a Mamiya 1000DTL (not in the best shape but will do) with it I got a zoom lens from 85 ~ 210 manufactured by SUN no. 137276. It appears to be like new, lenses clean no scratches or dings and shows almost no wear. I can understand why, when I try to mount it in the camera it screws in about 1 thread and the rear lens housing hits the metal housing around the prism. there appears to be a ring threaded onto the lens in the rear that is run down tight agains the body of the lens. it looks like if I could adjust it back towards the end of the lens housing it might make the lens fit. Oh yes also the lens when mounted with 1 thread does not focus until it is zoomed all the way out. Wouldn't this also indicate that the focal plane of the lens is not correct for the camera and needs adjustment. problem is I can't get the ring to move. Does anyone have the answer to this problem? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Planning purchase of dSLR I've looked at KM 5D, having Minolta's A-type bayonet. As I have loads of old Minolta's Auto Rokkor lenses - are there any converters that would make them usable on KM 5D?5. From : Captain B. (s_kander_gul@hotmail.com)

Just found an A-1, New. Really, it still had the plastic cover over the film pressure plate. Wanted to gloat. Threw an a-winder and an 85 1.8 s.s.c. on it and away we go! Smile pretty!, Captain B.6. From : Ray Burton-Doughty (RBmusic@bigpond.net.au)

Does anybody know if the tripod collar for the FD 300mm F4 is the same as for the FD 200mm F4 Macro? (They appear to look the same - just wondering if they are interchangeable).8. From : kenneth (timNjessie@hotmail.com)

Hi Ken: I'm not real familiar with the AL-1, but in general the FL lenses will work on A series and other FD cameras, but only in stop-down metering mode. As long as your camera has a stop-down metering option you can use the lens.10. Hi. I am wondering if someone can comment on the price and quality of Sigma APO 400mm f5.6 lens for nature photography. I am thinking of using this lens with my OM-2 and I not 100% sure if it is a good choice. Would it be sensible to pay up to 250 EURO for this item? Thanks
