Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

my uncle has given me a canon T50 with FD 35-105 zoom lens as a gift. how can i make sure the aperture settings on the zoom lens work? because when i remove the lens from the camera, and then change the aperture, i can't see the aperture size changing.

Matthew: no, there is no reason. The mirror and the shutter curtains are enough to protect the film while changing lens. For precaution, I use my body shadow when changing lenses in strong sunlight, but that's all. Film changing bag are for 220 or sheets film that have no protection agains light and should be loaded/unloaded in total darkness.

Hi there,Please forgive my naivety (but this is the reason we beginners consult experts right?).Would you recommend using a film changing bag to change lenses in the field? Thanks, M.

Tom: here http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/telefoto.htm you will find some suggestions. A good 500mm lens could be expensive, and a EOS 1N with a so-so lens will deliver so-so pictures too. No body can improve lens quality.

Hello,
I've just been given a Cannon EOS 650. I live in Northern Thailand and can't seem to find much in the way of info on sources for basic equipment, film beyond the usual 100/200 ASA colour, or a place to send the beast for cleaning or repair should this become necessary. Any suggestions?

Hi! I'm looking to buy my brother (whos a wildlife photography student) a lens. I'm told it is to be a 500mm lens to fit a cannon 1N body and must be an autofocus. I'm currently looking at a Sigma 500mm 1:7.2 lens but I'm not sure if this is a good quality lens, if it will fit his camera and if it will basically be what he wants. Any help that you could give to the least photographically minded person I'm sure you'll ever meet would be appreciated! Ta

Does anyone know anything about Bell & Howell OM fit lenses? I have recently acquired a 28-50 f3.5 in a box of OM gear. There does not appear to be much info anywhere.
