Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. My Canon 135mm lens mount fell off, then the lens started falling apart bit by bit. I recovered small springs and screws but I'm worried that it has bit the dust. Is there someone that fixes these lenses?

I am wanting to sell two autofocus lenses for Nikon. The problem is the most recent McBroom's guide doesn't list either of them, and there isn't a website online. One of them is a TAMRON 2.8 AF14mm ASPERICAL (FISHEYE) that currently lists at a little over $1100.00 new (it is about a year old). The other is a Promaster AF 19-35mm 3.5 that lists at about $345.00 new. Does anyone know if there is a website for McBroom's or if there is someone that I could write to find out their value? Or is anyone intrested in purchasing either (price neg.)?5. From : Don Clary (donaldaclary@cyberhotline.com)

Encore - What you are describing appears to be old and new FD lenses. Old FD lenses have a silver ring on the lens, where it attaches to the body. You rotate this ring to mount it on the body (this type of lens is also called breechlock). New FD lenses are black, no silver ring, has a release button near the end that mounts to the body, and the entire lens rotates as it mounts on the body. Both FTb and AE1 can mount either old FD or new FD with no adapter required. Since most old FD lenses (excluding extreme wide angle or long tele lenses) use one filter size (usually 55mm) and most new FD take another filter size (usually 52mm), you might decide to only purchase one type (old or new FD) if you plan to use many filters. Or you can purchase both types of lenses, buy 55mm filters, and use a stepping ring to mount on lenses using 52mm filters.6. From : Encore (encore223@hotmail.com)

I own a Canon FTb and am starting back into the photography world. I have been to several camera shops and there are some nice FD lenses for sale and they say that the lens will fit on the FTb. I have an AE1 that the lens goes on perfectly but m FTb has a twisting ring on the lenses when attaching the lens to the camera body. Do I need some sort of adaptor for the lens to work on my FTb? If so has anyone seen one for cale?7. From : Richard C. Booth (r.c.booth@worldnet.att.net)

Does anyone out there have any experience with an FD 35-70mm f4 autofocus lens? I found one used but in very good condition and it seems to work well. Its noisy but focuses acurately when mounted on an EF body. This combination makes an interesting "antique" auto focus/auto exposure camera!

Thomas: I'm not surprised. The Tokina lenses have very good reputation. Probably the best of the "pirat lenses".
If there is a difference in picture quality I think you'll have to make big enlargements to see it.9. From : Jomar Haktorson (jomarh@online.no)

bdstine: The breech lock lenses will fit your A1-1as well as the newer bajonet type lenses.
For your A1-1 you'll use a standard old fashioned shutter release cable. HAMA produces several types of these. Try you local photo shop. Newer camaras usualy have electronic release devices, therefor the old type is not always available in smaller photoshops.10. I just purchased a FD 17mm lens for $350 in EX condition.I bought this even though I own a Tokina RMC 17mm 3.5 in FD mount, because I own and use and collect FD except for a few Series 1 FD mounts. Funny thing is, I shot a few test rolls with each lense of exactly the same scenes ,same settings, same camera. I cannot tell the difference by eye.I plan on testing the Canon alot more.Possibly I have an exceptional Tokina that was about half the price.(i`m keeping both)Any comments?
